Publisher's summary

The Hyena and the Hawk is the third book in Adrian Tchaikovsky's epic fantasy trilogy, Echoes of the Fall, following The Bear and the Serpent.

From the depths of the darkest myths, the soulless Plague People have returned. Their pale-walled camps obliterate villages, just as the terror they bring with them destroys minds. In their wake, nothing is left of the true people: not their places, not their ways. The Plague People will remake the world as though they had never been.

The heroes and leaders of the true people - Maniye, Loud Thunder, Hesprec and Asman - will each fight the Plague People in their own ways. They will seek allies, gather armies and lead the charge. But a thousand swords or ten thousand spears will not suffice to turn back this enemy. The end is at hand for everything the true people know.

amazing!

I couldn't have asked for a better ending to this incredible trilogy! wow, just wow! Perfect! I really was just so entertained and enthralled in it! Now my 2nd favorite author and a close 2nd at that. Out of childhood loyalty to Stephen King 1st place can't be usurped lol but very very close 2nd. The performance was phenomenal! Kyla Garcia is a gem, seriously. I hope to use her talent for my own book here in the future. Just amazing with a great ending that left enough questions for me to still long for the serpents wisdom but... these things are known

Epic trilogy that rivals Tolkien's LOTR

Epic trilogy that rivals Tolkien's LOTR.

Amazing read of a rich universe with beautifully painted characters. Includes a perfect amount of comedic relief, riveting tension, sadness/happiness, danger, excitement.

Will definitely be reading this series to my young children. I hope it becomes a childhood favorite for them.

Only criticism is that it is too short.
Adrian Tchaikovsky is now my 2nd favorite author next to Issac Asimov. He's THAT good. You should read all his books!

Good, not great

The biggest issue is the narrator, who's stilted performance made the writing feel blocky and unfinished. Compared to other works from the author, this series is a little more trite and the there was a major glut of restating the same concept or character backstreet over and over. It felt a little pandering as well. Rainbow girls and abused girls are the ones who have the secrets to save the world, and those who choose beauty and technology over primative values are soulless. Kind of strange. It was good. Just, not great.

Satisfying conclusion

Good conclusion to the trilogy. Enjoyed the story, but was kinda slow for my tastes and lost as to who the plague people were. After reading other reviews, think I might have enjoyed this series more, had I read his previous series.
