Publisher's summary

Everyone is dead. All that remains is an old woman and a gymnasium full of unresponsive bodies. Each day another storm approaches, threatening to destroy the building they call home. Each night a series of nightmares leaves the woman screaming for help. Alone and overwhelmed, will the final member of the human race be thought of as a caretaker or as a monster?

The Hauntings of Playing God is a story about the possibilities each life holds. It is also a lesson about the importance of believing in something greater than yourself.

not boring

**Partial spoiler**...
My least favorite of the three in the series. I didn't find it boring, maybe because I'm 72 and have some of those same questions. Narrator was very good as was the other one. I probably wouldn't have waited as long as she did. That's ME.

kind of long ..

this was a little repetitive. I liked the premise, but wonder if it couldn't have been crafted into something shorter and more impactful.

Could you imagine?

What a nightmare it would be to be in your 90's and feeling responsible for the care of so many lives.

you can do it!

years ago I couldn't have sat through this book! I'm glad I'd did.. I still don't know how I feel about it. but it got me thinking in a new and at times devastatingly profound way!

Another piece to the puzzle

I am enjoying this series, and I think out of the three of four I e read I think I like this most. I’m intrigued to see what the last book holds.

Boring Post Apocalyptic Story.

This is by far the worst of "The Great De-evolution" series. Boring, repetitive and downright depressing. I stayed with it thinking it would get better, but it never did. I guess the fact that the main character was 93 years old and confined by her work to the former gymnasium where she tool care of a decreasing number of "blocks" limited the various scenarios afforded to the main character in "A Different Alchemy" as he got to travel up the east coast of the US - in a tank! Even the old man in "The Man Who Watched the World End" got to travel down his street and see how his neighborhood had changed.

Boring

Compared to the other books, this one's super boring. The life of a caretaker feeding and changing 64 vegetables. I'm gonna go watch paint dry now.

Speaking of devolving...

This book is about as boring as it gets. If it wasn't free, I wouldn't have listened.
is this a new genre, book after book of ignorant people dying of boredom.
on the bright side, I hope I live to 93 and can care for 64 vegetables.

Prepare to be depressed

If you want a listen where you can be utterly depressed for the character the entire time, then this is the book for you! I kept expecting something to happen, but nothing ever did. It was just a depressing tale of an old lady who is losing her mind and unable to care for herself let alone anyone else.
