Publisher's summary
Mickey Haller gets the text, "Call me ASAP - 187," and the California penal code for murder immediately gets his attention. Murder cases have the highest stakes and the biggest paydays, and they always mean Haller has to be at the top of his game.
When Mickey learns that the victim was his own former client, a prostitute he thought he had rescued and put on the straight and narrow path, he knows he is on the hook for this one. He soon finds out that she was back in LA and back in the life. Far from saving her, Mickey may have been the one who put her in danger.
Haunted by the ghosts of his past, Mickey must work tirelessly and bring all his skill to bear on a case that could mean his ultimate redemption or proof of his ultimate guilt.

Story
In The Worst of You, just-wed architects Timo and Nia flee a murder scene, setting in motion a chain reaction of lies and betrayals that threaten to unravel everything they have built together. Twisted and propulsive, this thriller is told from the alternating perspectives of the couple and those close to them on Williwaw Island, each with their own motive to use the outcome of the murder case to their advantage. When a huge storm sweeps up the coast, trapping everyone on tiny Williwaw Island, it’s a race against time—and the elements — to stop the murderer from striking again.

Outstanding Connelly
What did you love best about The Gods of Guilt?
The ins and outs of political and legal battles faced by Haller in his defense of his client.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Absolutely. The plot is full of unexpected but credible twists and turns.
What about Peter Giles’s performance did you like?
Actually, I wasn't overwhelmed by his performance. He does a very good job using different voices but tends to be whiny.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It just kept me on the edge of my seat.
Any additional comments?
I've read and enjoyed all of Connelly's Bosch series but am enjoying the Mickey Haller books even more.

Another spellbinding Mickey Haller courtoom romp
Connelly is a masterful writer whose awesome skills have never been more effectively applied than in this engaging story of the dangerous fight to set an (almost) innocent man free.
Having produced thousands of voice-overs, I'd have to rate Peter Giles up there with Humphrey Bower as one of the best narrators (actors) I've ever heard.

Michael Connelly and Justice go hand in hand.
What made the experience of listening to The Gods of Guilt the most enjoyable?
It was a great story line and the twists and turns. Connelly explains the legality of law proceedings with expert skill and is able to blend them into the story brilliantly. Thoroughly enjoyable!
What about Peter Giles’s performance did you like?
Simply splendid, such easy listening.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Everyone deserves Justice!
Any additional comments?
I still love the short connections made with Harry Bosch.

Vultures and defense attorneys
It can have more than one meaning when it comes to this story. The guilt that's been placed on Mickey's client; the guilty actions the antagonists take to cover their tracks; or defense attorney Mickey Haller, who lost more than he's run for the DA's office after a former client gets in an accident. The public and his daughter vilified him. Eventually he comes across a client whose been arrested for murder and he wants Mickey representing him. The victim turned out to be Gloria Dayton, a prostitute Mickey had believed had gotten out of the life. He had represented her on multiple occasions in the past. Her suspected murderer is her pimp whom Mickey believes to be innocent and will do everything in his power to defend.
Out of all of The Lincoln Lawyer novels, believe this one to be the best so far. The title has an interesting meaning that I will let the reader enjoy on their own. This is Mickey Hall at his all time low. He's alienated his daughter, the public didn't want him for their district attorney and when things just might be getting better for Mr. Lucky, he will lose another soul he cares about.
This book is Michael Connelly at his best.
Peter Giles was amazing with the delivery of the story

Most likely the best Mike Haller story so far....
I've always considered Mike Haller the byproduct of a diversification strategy where Bosh is the 'core business' ( and the best of all) , while books centered around other characters have the objective to sort of "give a break" to Mike Connelly and let him write without having to consistently reinvent great Bosh stories. This book sets for me a new paradigm; the character of Haller is now maturing , taking a shape and role that stand out on their own ( who cares anymore if he is Bosh half-brother ?). The story plot is as good as it gets, the different characters -including the recurring cast around Mike Haller- engaging and forceful and the reader/listener is hooked to the book from the very beginning.
The Gods of guilt is a great book and makes me - for the first time- look forward to the next Haller story....
