Publisher's summary

Somewhere in New England, nine-year-old Trisha gets lost in the woods while on a walk with her family. Her only comforts are the radio broadcasts of Boston Red Sox games featuring her favorite player, closing pitcher Tom Gordon. Lonely, frightened, starving, and cold, Gordon becomes Trisha's imaginary companion - and the key to her survival against an unidentified someone (or some thing) leaving death and destruction in its wake.

The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon is read by celebrated actress Anne Heche, star of numerous major motion pictures including Return to Paradise and Wag the Dog.

Whether we’re focused on the apocalypse or just an ill-timed breakdown on the side of a particularly remote road, there’s something about imagining survival scenarios that can be addictive. On some level, we all wonder if we would have what it takes to pit ourselves against the worst the world can possibly offer and make it out alive. That’s why it’s no surprise that survival literature is so popular, and that the stories in the genre are so diverse.

Ann Heche as 9 year old and tall for her age Trisha

I’ve read the book numerous times and IMO this is one of the VERY few books where the Audiobook performance is worthy of the book.

After my first trip to Maine, 20 years after I first read/listened I downloaded to listen again and was not disappointed.

I wanted to give up multiple times…..(no legit spoilers)

I do not leaving a negative review but I’m not sure how I feel about the book. During the narration there were times that I drifted off and had no clue what I was listening to. Then there were other parts where I was clinging on. The narrator was either hit or miss throughout the book.
Towards the end don’t stop listening when chapter 12 kicks in there’s a really long odd pause. I’m not sure why. Maybe it’s because it’s older recording and just wasn’t able to be edited a certain way? Also, there was really odd music between chapters. If kind of threw me off when hearing it. I’m not sure why the music was even edited into the narrating.
This is the first book listening to where I didn’t know how to review. Everything was just “ok.”
It’s sad. I was expecting more from S. King but I’m sure some would really enjoy this book. Hopefully the next S.King will keep me more interested. Fingers crossed.

Stephen King, What else do I have to say

This little story was definitely King at his best. He took an event, with very little to work with and made it into a story of drama, suspense, fear, and empathy. From the first moment to the very last word the reader was involved and entrenched in the story. I would highly recommend this book.

FANtastic Save

This was my first audible book. I've read The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon twice. The story is smmooth and fluid. It draws you in as if your child were in the woods. Extremely believable.

Lost?

This book was very suspenseful and thought provoking. The story is a psychological study of saving yourself under cruel conditions. King creates a 9 year old character who is likable, charmingly, and totally believable.. The baseball metaphor and Anne Heche's truly brilliant performance further enhance the narrative. However; there is an unexpected, ill-fitting musical interlude at the end of each "inning". Good job SK.

Simple story well told

I enjoyed this story and Kings impression of a 9 year old girls view of the world. I laughed every time King used her friend Pepsi to speak for her in his voice.

A very unique and touching story.

Voice acting is inspiring and we'll defined. The story is unique and reviting. Loved this. Full of amusement, child-like horror and mystery. 5 out of 5 stars!!!

So Average

Very average story. I found that not knowing what the book was about and just knowing the title existed was better - it was a mystery to me after having read most of Stephen King's books and I should have left it that way.

Great even for non redsox fans

I love Stephen King. This little story about a girl lost in the woods is right up there with all the rest of his excellent work.

So good

Great narrator and story. I enjoyed this book from start to finish. As a parent, it struck a deep cord. I suggest it to all.
