Publisher's summary

Sometimes it’s easier to believe the lie. But is the truth right in front of you?

Everyone says Poppy jumped. My beautiful, creative sister, with her paint-splattered dresses and sunshine smile, took her own life. And I think they’re right. Until the day I get a call from a man with a very similar story.

Everyone says his sister jumped too. But he has proof that she was pushed. And if she was, I have to ask myself: could the same thing have happened to Poppy? In the moments before she died, was she really calling me to say goodbye, or was she calling for my help? Was she really alone on that cliff edge?

When Poppy’s friends tell me she had a serious boyfriend, I feel like I’m losing my grip on reality. If they were so madly in love, wouldn’t she have told me? Wouldn’t there be pictures of them together? And when I find the silver heart necklace he gave her, I feel sick. It’s the same silver heart another murdered girl was given in the weeks before she died.

This can’t be a coincidence. Either I’ve lost my mind, or the man my darling sister loved killed her. And if he could charm his way into her life so easily, what’s to say he’s not already in mine?

Well written but too repetative

The story was well written and I enjoyed the plot line, but there was lots and lots and lots that could have been left out making the story more concise. It was draining to listen to the same thing over and over and over again. Also, 3 different times the writer goes off on another storyline. I actually thought I had switched to a different book on my kindle. I assumed that part of the story was important and would be tied in later, but it never was. I don't understand that at all. Again, well written and a good plot, but could have been cut in half easily.

Adults or Adolescents?!

This book has an interesting premise, but the characters are so grating. Do adult people actually whine and sulk that much? They sound more like teens pretending to be adults. And, who calls when a text is more immediate? The author seemed to deliberately create massive, nonsensical holes in the story. This book was difficult to finish, so it took much longer than my usual listening time.

Brutal

This novel takes a brutally honest look at mental illness from all sides. I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see where all of this was leading!

AN ABSOLUTE MUST READ!!!

We have to be very careful who we trust and allow into our circle of friends. Nice and friendly isn't always genuine, which is something Clementine learns in her quest to learn what really happened to her sister. It's a dangerous place to be in when you find you can't trust anyone, especially when you may be the next victim.

I could not put this book down, I just had to know what was going to happen next, and as far as I was concerned, everyone was a suspect.

Is it Just Me?

I’m enjoying this story. I hate to drop a star, but it’s driving me crazy that she keeps calling the police. I don’t think it’s a spoiler that the death of her sister is suspicious, so as we all know.. there are questions that need answers. Why won’t she show up to the police station? Why is she relying on someone to pass the information down the line. This is an important issue, her suspicions, so for me this is a weak plot device? It doesn’t ring true.

Other than that, it’s got me on… The Edge of my seat. Sorry, had to do it.

Too long, frustrating. @ times just silly

As another reviewer observed, why bother *calling* the police repeatedly (and complaining!) when the "brilliant" Harvard-educated protagonist could simply take the evidence to the police station? Also, same protagonist has Rx for sleeping meds, yet exhausts herself and becomes paranoid from lack of sleep, but fears being perceived as mentally unstable (?!). There are other instances where this character was so incredibly dense, I rolled my eyes so hard I saw George Washington crossing the Delaware. The narration was okay.

The narrator!

The narrators voice was fingernails on a chalkboard for me, couldn’t make it through chapter 2.

Went downhill fast…

The story started strong and interesting but got worse and worse as it went on. It became too repetitive and I eventually ended up skipping chapters. The killer reveal was an ok twist but the motive for the first murder was weird and made no sense. This is my first and last time listening to this author and I don’t recommend.
