Publisher's summary

The second book in the steamy, hilarious Campus Diaries series by New York Times bestselling author Elle Kennedy, set in the same world as Off Campus and Briar U.

“I told them I had a girlfriend.”
I start to laugh. “This is the greatest day of my life.”
“Oh, it gets better, Dixon. I told them it was you.”

Diana Dixon has a lot going on this summer. She’s rehearsing for a ballroom dance competition, juggling two jobs, and dealing with an ex-boyfriend who can’t take the hint it’s over. Yet despite all that, she still has plenty of time and energy to tell Shane Lindley to screw off.

Shane just moved into her apartment building and seems dedicated to sleeping his way through her entire cheerleading squad. Sure, he’s a tall, gorgeous hockey player, but he’s messing with her turf. This calls for some ground rules: no parties in her apartment, leave her teammates alone, and—most importantly—leave her alone.

What Diana doesn’t realize is that Shane’s sick of hookups and tired of being on the rebound after his long-term girlfriend called it quits. He wants a relationship. And when his ex comes back into the picture, he pretends he has one to make her jealous…and who better to play the girlfriend role than his sassy new neighbor?

Despite Diana’s reluctance to break her rule, a fake relationship is the perfect solution for her own ex issues, and soon she can’t deny something is sizzling between her and Shane. Something hot and completely unexpected.

And it might just be getting a little too real.

Book 1 was so fun I needed more

After binge reading my way through The Graham Effect, I knew I would be excited for whatever came next in this series. And when I started reading, I quickly realized that The Dixon Rule was an even better read. I adored Diana and Shane. Their forced proximity, enemies to friends to lovers, fake dating story was cute and a very fun read. When Shane proposed a FWB relationship, I laughed knowing Elle was setting them up for a delightful failure. These two were meant to be. I also grabbed the audio to switch between listening and reading. Just like the previous book, The Dixon Rule was an amazing audiobook with narration by Covin King and Erin Mallon. Erin has long been one of my favorites for her comedic nuance and Corvin King is quickly becoming one of top narrators. They made me laugh and swoon, making it the perfect audiobook for me!

Diana is a busy woman who works hard to make her own way in life. When Shane moves into the apartment next door, she quickly sets some ground rules to keep his party boy lifestyle in check this summer. As the two spend more time together, staying annoyed with each other becomes harder and harder. When Shane’s ex shows up with her new boyfriend, Shane begs Diana for help. She reluctantly agrees to be his fake girlfriend, but their little lie slowly becomes more as the weeks pass. Neither was looking for a relationship with the other, but will they be able to keep things fake for long?

I thoroughly enjoyed the love story in The Dixon Rule, but I will say that there were plenty of laughs to be had as well. Between Shane and Diana’s friends, HOA meeting shenanigans (if only real HOA meetings were this enjoyable), nosy neighbors, and bonding over reality TV, this story was light and fun even if both characters had exes to deal with before they could really settle into their HEA. Both Shane and Diana were easy characters to like and I adored how they teased each other. This series has once again proven to be a super fun read and a wonderful love story that makes me look forward to whatever comes next for the series.

Worth listening

I wanted to start off saying that this book is worth listening to, but the male voice actor was not well cast. His voice did not match his character at all. (I just got used to it) The female narrator was a decent match and put on a good performance as she always does. I wish they would re-record it with a different male voice actor, but I know that will never happen…. I really enjoyed the story itself. It was a good follow up to the first book in this series. Can’t wait for the next one.

Stunned! (Amazing but have tissues ready)

I couldn’t wait for the next book and then all teasers made the anticipation almost unbearable. The spice is perfection, the humor between Diana and Shane is so good. I did not expect the heart-wrenching issues.

Kitchen scene

It was good! Really liked the female main character. I think the first book still my favorite. Will keep reading the series.

Literally all of the emotions.

This book had me sweating and sobbing. Chapter 36 was hot 🥵🥵🥵🫠🫠 and my heart broke in the back half. And then I had all the other feelings throughout the book. 10/5 in my opinion. Based on the bonus scene I legit cannot wait until book 3! (Insert Jonah hill screaming with jazz hands gif)

Love love love

I loved this book so much the enemies to lovers was so good chapter 22 and chapter 23 where everything to me chapter 50 broke, but it was such an amazing book Diane and Shane grew so much together and all the side characters were amazing other than Percival, but I love the book so much. It was very different than The Graham effect but I love them equally but in different ways. I definitely recommend this book 56 stars so good. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
