Beware the Diary of Mr. Poynter

This was a wonderful creepy tale of horror in a diary. One of M.R. James’ better tales, the twist was unexpected. Wonderful narration by David Collings, particularly with the various voices.

Another of James's Best!!!

This tale leads us into a place of imagined horror that I am sure ANY pet owner can identify with. How would it be if, like the owner pf Mr. Poynter's Diary you found yourself petting...? Again Mr. David Collings ably ushers us into the ghostly realms so well charted by this amazing storyteller!!! A MUST HAVE for any fan of shuddery stories!

Terror in the mundane well-executed

What did you love best about The Diary of Mr Poynter?

This story manages to make the most innocuous and mundane of tasks, picking out wallpaper, into an experience sharp with suspense and oozing with dread. It is also one of the author's most novel sources for an apparition.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Diary of Mr Poynter?

The protagonist growing to regret having the lines join up at the top of the wallpaper was a stellar case of unreasoning horror.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I found myself getting nervous at the thought of the pattern being reproduced on a large scale, and entirely unable to say why it would scare me so.

Any additional comments?

The reader is very good at matching the casual tone of the story with hints of mounting unease. He is a fine match for M R James's material.
