Twenty-six years later, her brother, Sammy, fatefully crosses paths with the man the police failed to convict for her abduction and murder. A few weeks later, that man is dead, murdered. Private attorney Jason Kolarich is engaged to defend Audrey's brother. But can he trust the people who hired him?

Entertaining and funny
This is a legal thriller I found very entertaining and also funny. You usually don’t get both. I listen to the entire book in one day. I love the narrator’s voice. This narrator is now one of my favorites, and Steven Cavanagh is up there with Michael Connelly and Robert Dugoni. I can’t wait to read books 2 and 3. I must contact the author on Twitter to let him know how much I have enjoyed this book.

Add more Steve Cavanaugh!
I initially picked up Thirteen by Steve Cavanaugh at a book store. After finishing it in an afternoon I knew I needed more from this author. I was ecstatic to learn that the book I had just finished was part of a series and I hadn’t even started from the beginning. I immediately downloaded Defense and finished it in less than 24 hours. I have already downloaded Plea but was sad to learn that the other books in this series aren’t on Audible. They are in German but not English. So if any execs from audible or anybody with power reads this review, PLEASE add more of these books onto audible and Steve, please keep writing.

Great find and a new favorite legal series!
Was looking for something interesting to listen to when I stumbled upon the book Thirteen and The Pleas. I was interested but realized I would probably enjoy the books more if I started from the beginning. Risking wasting a lot of time and a book credit, I downloaded the Defense and never looked back! Wasn’t sure about the narrator in the first chapter but eventually I was engrossed - as a good audiobook will. Looking forward to the next books!

Amazing Writing and Narration
It’s hard to believe that Mr. Cavanagh can keep this pace and engagement going through an entire book. This is the second time he’s done it for me, first was book #3 in this series, The Plea. And Adam Sims is the perfect narrator. Talk about having trouble sleeping instead of finding out what happens next. I prepared to be blown away so I downloaded #2, Thirteen, when I downloaded The Defense. Thank you for the entertainment Mr. C.
