The Lake

At 17, Layla Weston is already starting over. Having lost both her parents and grandparents, and with nowhere else to go, Layla is moving from Florida to a small town in North Carolina to live with the only family she has left: her estranged uncle and aunt.

The last five years of Layla's life were spent appeasing her less-than-loving grandmother, followed by being her grandfather's caretaker. Growing old before her time, Layla lost her identity. Now she must learn how to allow herself to be the one cared for and loved.

Life takes an unexpected turn when Layla meets Will Meyer. His breathtaking good looks are enough to catch her eye, but his sincerity and passion are everything she needs to find the strength and confidence she lost - and lead her into love.

When tragedy once again strikes Layla's life, her hope is all but completely crushed. Through it all, Layla learns what it means to truly love and be loved.

Troubled Waters

College life for Layla Weston isn't starting the way she'd intended. She's revisiting the plans she once had to be the reclusive girl she wanted to be at Heyward Prep, and Layla is more than confident in her ability to succeed this time. After all, she's got a whole new bag of secrets to keep.

Still reeling from Will's disappearance, Layla is doing her best to adjust to life back in Florida. She continues to hold out hope, confident she was meant to find Will's ring for a reason.

Just as Layla is starting to accept that she must keep moving forward, secrets from the past threaten Layla and her family. As Luke and Claire join with Layla to protect their family, Layla discovers that her uncle may not be the man she thought he was - and that there's more to Will's disappearance than she ever could have imagined.

Safe Harbor

Layla Weston was supposed to be planning her wedding, not waiting for her fiancé's father to die.

As Luke prepares to defend Holly for the shooting of Gregory Meyer, Layla and her family weigh the possibility of being able to return home to North Carolina. Only Layla isn't quite sure that's what she wants.

Will and Layla are faced with a new set of challenges for their future - including the status of their upcoming wedding. And when new revelations about his father come to light, Will finds himself questioning his own destiny as a man. With Layla's help, he must learn that his identity is not determined by his DNA.

Now that they are on the brink of their happily-ever-after, will Layla and Will get everything they dreamed of? Or will their happiness continue to be just out of reach?

Would you consider the audio edition of The Complete Lake Series to be better than the print version?

I had already read the series but this is a great addition. You may want to download it and do the whisper sync so you can switch back and forth. I listened to it and I loved it.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Complete Lake Series?

I had already read the series but I don't think that I read the 4th book. The series still moved me even though I had already read it.

Have you listened to any of Em Eldridge’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I am not sure but she did an excellent job with this series.

If you could rename The Complete Lake Series, what would you call it?

I would never rename this series because The Lake series brings the series back full circle.

Any additional comments?

Long but well worth the listen.

Great YA Adventure with twists

If you could sum up The Complete Lake Series in three words, what would they be?

Love, surprises, family

Any additional comments?

The Lake series is a great romance book with plenty of twists and surprises along the way. I enjoyed watching Layla grow and become a normal teenage girl and then into the woman she was set to become.

Layla and Will are now one of my top favorite couples.

Teenage love success story

I'm 38 and I enjoyed this series, but I will say it would probably be better suited to a younger generation. It's perfect for a teenage girl, telling a romance story without having a lot of sex talk and showing an example of a couple who waited until the wedding night. I thought the beginning was a bit too storybook at times despite their complications. Her first boyfriend, first kiss, first everything being her one true perfect love is a bit hard to swallow at times and this is coming from a woman who met her husband at 15 and has been married for almost 20 years. She also came off very selfish to me at times in the beginning. But, I got too into the story to give it up. The 2nd and 3rd books were much better for me and I really enjoyed the progression in those stages. The last one gets a mixed review. It was an enjoyable little after story but the way the narrator read that one was totally different and she made Layla sound like a complete ditz. That ruined it a bit for me.

AnnaLisa Grant is an amazing person and author. Very genuine and caring! She is an author favorite of mine and I will buy any of her books without a second thought. This is my first listen to the audible version of her books and I really enjoyed it. I own several of her paperbacks and she's signed them too. LOVE her!!

Great Narrator

Where does The Complete Lake Series rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Middle of the road. I truly enjoyed Em Eldridge (Narrator); she does a great job of bringing each character to life.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Complete Lake Series?

Not sure I can say that without spoilers. The dock moments are always memorable though.

Which character – as performed by Em Eldridge – was your favorite?

Tyler was by far my favorite character, even with his limited appearances.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It was far too long to consider in one sitting, but I listened as often as I could until it was complete.

Any additional comments?

It is a story about loss, greed, selfishness and finding love and keeping it regardless of the circumstances. I enjoyed the story but I am a bit conflicted about writing the review. The plot was interesting but I felt like it was sometimes predictable and rushed. I wanted to root for the characters and at the same time I wanted to scream at them.

Why change the narrator?

The whole story is a light and long read with many ups and downs... I will not get into that. What bothered me most was the change of narrator in the last book. I had to dial down the playback rate. There must have been something wrong with the recording or the lady was rushing to finish the project.

An enjoyable YA for the "older" generation

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Sure, it's an easy listen with entertaining values.

What other book might you compare The Complete Lake Series to and why?

The 1st book had similarities to Twilight in the sense that it was love at 1st sight, and the target of her affection was so beautiful. Thankfully, that was lost in book 2 as the story picked up its own direction.

Any additional comments?

It was good that I got the entire series with one credit. Had I used the credit for the 1st book alone, I would have returned it and missed out the remaining 3 books. The story develops quite nicely and even though it ends predictably its still an interesting journey to get there.

Innocent and Charming YA Romance

What did you like best about The Complete Lake Series? What did you like least?

An extremely innocent yet charming YA romance. Entertaining and interesting plotline, though it feels a bit drawn out in needing four books. Enjoyed the twists, but they were few and far between. I think a lot of the repetition could have been edited down and made for a more satisfying and slightly shorter series.
