When Persephone Lancaster receives a marriage proposal from the ill-tempered Duke of Kielder, she refuses - and then reconsiders. The obscene sum of money he's offering Persephone would save her family from ruin. With her characteristic optimism, she travels to the far reaches of Northumberland to wed a greatly feared stranger. Lodged deep in a thick forest infested with wild dogs, the Duke's castle is as cold and forbidding as the Duke himself, a man with terrible scars on his body and his soul.

In the eyes of London Society, Gillian Phelps is suitable enough. Though the ton whispers about her change of residence, any speculation remains just that: ballroom gossip. No one—not even the other Huntresses, the group of ladies she calls her dearest friends—knows that she is harboring a devastating family secret. Gillian has become adept at hiding the reality of her circumstances, but the close quarters of a house party will test her ability to conceal the crushing truth. And with so many people to deceive, the late arrival of another guest is a most unwelcome surprise.

Though their concession comes with certain expectations, Daria is determined to enjoy every moment alongside her dear friends, the Huntresses, as they make their annual foray into the Marriage Mart.
Toss Comstock has no interest in marriage. His only purpose in London is to enjoy his Bachelor Season before he’s forced to follow whatever path his elder brother deems best. But his plans are quickly turned upside down when he strikes a bargain with the lovely Miss Mullins at the Debenham Ball. The longtime acquaintances discover that they share the maddening affliction of familial pressures, leading them to hatch an outlandish scheme: they will engage in a friendly competition. Monte Carlo, 1982. The odds of a man like Marco de Noli falling for a girl like me were a million to one. He's old money, a classic European jet set, a master of the universe. When we met, I was a shy girl from Oklahoma, pretty enough but nowhere near his league. One year later, after he stands me up on our first anniversary, I have to face facts. Our marriage was a mistake. My in-laws think I'm a gold digger, Marco lives at the office, and nights of passion aren't enough. There's nothing keeping me in Monte Carlo.

I shouldn’t have hooked up with my one-night stand...again. To be fair, I was having the worst day of my life. I was sure that nothing else could go wrong. Then in walks Jordan Wright. We have a heated history, and I’ve been avoiding him. Not least of all because he’s a hundred percent my type with those big brown eyes, a ripped body, and his blisteringly broody charm. I said I’d never go near him again. But he’s there for me when I need him. And well, old habits die hard.

It's been months since the day we stood above that empty grave that stunk of burnt flesh and secrets. All of us were dressed to the nines, one of us wearing a wedding dress, a day that was supposed to mark the beginning of a new adventure. It marked the bitter end of our vengeance. We have done things that have marked our souls for eternity. But before we get there, we have to go back. Back to where it all started. The place I could find in my sleep.

absolutely marvelous as always
I would suggest at the very least reading the best laid plans, charming Artemis and the best of intentions before this book. The reading of the Lancaster family series would give you more insight into the Duke and Dutchess of Kielder who play a significant role in this story. Though The chronological order of her books to the best of my knowledge is seeking Persephone, courting Miss Lancaster, romancing Daphne, kiss of a stranger, friends and foes, drops of Gold, as you are, a fine gentleman, for love and honor, loving lieutenant Lancaster, the heart of a vicar, Christmas at Falstone, The best laid plans, charming Artemis, the best of intentions and then this book The best of friends.
She has an unfinished prequel series called the gents that give you more insight on the jonquils mother and her friends. That goes ahead of these books too.
Honestly, I'm reading all of her books during the year because every single time she releases a new book. I reread the whole series so I don't forget any of the details because she puts in beautiful Easter eggs from the other books. Just little winks of if you know you know.
