Publisher's summary

At exactly 7:30 p.m., Walter Pettibone arrived home to over a hundred friends and family shouting, "surprise!" It was his birthday. Although he had known about the planned event for weeks, the real surprise was yet to come. At 8:45 p.m., a woman with emerald eyes and red hair handed him a glass of champagne. One sip of birthday bubbly, and he was dead.

The woman's name is Julie Dockport. No one at the party knew who she was. But Detective Eve Dallas remembers her all too well. Eve was personally responsible for her incarceration nearly ten years ago. And now, let out on good behavior, she still has nothing but bad intentions. It appears she wants to meet Dallas again - in a reunion neither will forget...

I was enchanted

The relationship between Eve and Roarke - so very sigh worthy. The narrator for this, Susan Ericksen, did an amazing job of bringing this story to life. I adored the gentle Irish lilt of Roarke. The crisp no nonsense of Dallas. The blooming confidence of Peabody. The New York twang of Feeney. Fantastic.

Love how the characters are growing.

I think than the characters keep evolving. The plots are always great. Don't know how Nora keeps coming up with the ideas.

Rough and tough - Laugh and cry

This book tore at my heart, made me mad, and made me laugh. An author that can do that is exceptional. I was buried in the story throughout from beginning to the end. Eve and Rourke's chemistry makes these stories so entertaining.

Eve and Rourke First Wedding Anniversary

Susan Ericksen continues brilliantly narrating the fascinating and thrilling In Death series.
Each book has a well plotted mystery and new antagonists and murderer .Yet , what brings me back is the world built around Eve, Rourke and the rest of the amazing cast of characters.

Sexually explicit & character representation ‘eh’

While the book was decent it focused on sexual moments between the two main characters a little too deeply & lengthy for me. I was not expecting it to be that explicit and it made me uncomfortable. Also, the narrator shaped the voices into characters that I don’t think were appropriate, such as female officer Peabody being a dope with a deep voice. However, she did a fantastic Irish accent. I’d prefer the voices be a little more neutral so I can shape my own vision of them.

I’m hooked on the “in Death” Series

Each book in this series sparkles, no matter how many you’ve read. Nora Roberts’ “in Death” books are proven winners.

Susan Ericksen’s performance is outstanding. She uses a variety of clearly defined voices and reads in a way that illuminates the story. Bravo, Ms Ericksen!

I’m hooked on this series. When I finish one I download the next one. I think it’s because the characters are so appealing and the storylines aren’t repetitive. Each book has the characters you love, and the familiar plot structure, yet stands on its own.

The characters are larger than life, but aren’t caricatures. They have a backstory and their complex personalities and relationships develop during the series.

As I describe Eve and Roark below, it sounds like I’m poking fun at them. But here’s the thing, all their characteristics make the stories interesting.

New York Police Lieutenant Eve Dallas dedicates her life to finding justice for victims. She relentlessly hunts down the villains, often at the expense of her own physical and mental health. She has a hair trigger temper and shouts a lot, but she has a good heart and those close to her love and admire her. (BTW, she catches the criminal every time. This should not be a spoiler.)

Her husband, Roark, the wealthiest man in the known universe, is also brilliant, drop-dead handsome, incredibly sexy, charming, and dangerous.

Eve and Roark are madly in love, and both having strong (titanium-reinforced) wills, they quarrel. The arguments often end with a roll in the hay, or in the elevator, or in the shower…... You can count on a few steamy scenes in every book. Their sex life seems too good to be true. No one could make love so often, or have so many organisms at a time. Could they? And what is all the biting about? Well, maybe I’m just jealous.

And there’s more! The goofy sidekicks, the humor, the poignancy…..

I hope you give the series a try if you haven’t already and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
