Check This One Out

Right up front before you read any further just know that I recommend this book to anybody thinking about giving it a shot. It is a light novel and as such I wouldn't expect anything too “heavy” going into it. A little context for my review. I tend to take it easy on the first and last book of any series as not every series makes it to “The End” and the first of anything can be a shaky endeavor. I also try to make clear the distinction between the quality of the writing/performance of the author/narrator and my personal tastes should they differ. Our hero was a star athlete in school complete with all the accolades, a new woman every night, and a promising future. Tragedy strikes leaving his two parents dead and his future sunk. Our hero turns to booze, then rehab, and life after being a star. Our hero turns firefighter and still finds himself cycling through women. While responding to a fire he breaks rank and goes maverick to save a little girl and her babysitter. Dying after falling down an elevator shaft in the attempt he finds himself in front of a God like being. Given a choice to be reborn on a world balanced between good and evil for the God like individuals’ entertainment or nothingness our hero chooses to be reborn. Clad in his fire gear complete with the tools of his former trade he faces down horrid monsters while being assisted by his divine helper who only offers nonphysical help. He's on his way to sanctuary and a journey beyond. This essentially takes us to the ending of chapter 4. The story appears to be volume one of a trilogy which is currently available as a box set in ebook form just in case you get to the end of this story and are looking for more but can't wait for the audio. I have read only one other book by this author which is “Barbarian Chef” and I recommend that one as well. This is the first time I've come across this narration team either together or separate. I enjoyed their performances and look forward to what they might have coming up next. Lastly, I'll just say well done to everybody who had a hand in bringing this story to us, the Audible listeners.

awesomeness

a great adventure with a former athlete turned fire fighter isekai'd after saving a baby. finally a book that has some medieval, modern and futuristic technology all wrapped up in a bundle of greatness.

Enjoyable listen

This was my first light novel and I have to say that I found it quite enjoyable. Cat-girl sisters are funny. Also, annoying, but definitely funny. Roll Tide! Ha! that was funny. If you are looking for a credit to spend a few fun hours on, then look no further. There's fight with opponents, monsters and hilariously with each other. The quips and innuendos are borderline dad jokes (always good for a cringe worthy chuckle). All in all it's just a fun book to listen to.

Well done. Well narrated.  will be looking forward to the next from this author. Is worth a listen, give it a try.

great start

I thought this was a pretty good start to a series. it had action and humor. decent rpg elements and base building. the characters were coming into their own by the end of the book and can't wait for the second. the narrators did a fine job also.

Really great 1st book.

A lot of amazing in this book. Cat girls, succubus, zombies, and portal magic. It doesn’t get much better than that kids. The dual narration was perfect.

an interesting book, the main character is a firefighter and is reborn as a fire mage. Will he beable to manage his new life?

Pretty Good

I enjoyed the way the book started out. The MC is not the usual “nerd” type and exceeds expectations. As the book progresses as the new world is clearer he shines with his personal integrity and willingness to help others. The intimate interactions are hot and worth the listen. I recommend this book.
