Elsa, Zelal, Malin, Julia, Sara, Nadia och Linda är alla dömda ungdomsbrottslingar. De skickas på en fjällvandring för att det ska "bli folk av dem". När de kommer tillbaka till Uppsala har en pandemi dödat nästan alla människor.
De kommer i kontakt med en grupp i Håga by som lyckats få vardagen att fungera. Men för att få stanna måste de anpassa sig efter Mästarens hårda regler om att allt modernt är förbjudet. Tjejerna får nog av reglerna och försöker i stället bygga en ny tillvaro efter sina egna regler inne i Uppsala. Trots att Mästaren sagt att de som lever på civilisationens rester inne i stan inte är något annat än råttor. Men konflikten med Håga är inte alls över...
