Publisher's summary

One of the greatest of all English novels, a finely etched satire about the scatterbrained Mrs. Bennett, whose aim in life is to see her five daughters married. Meet Jane Austen's rich and varied characters: the proud Mr. Darcy; the pompous parson Mr. Collins, who seeks the most advantageous match for himself; good-humored Mr. Bingley; and, of course, the two eldest Bennett daughters, Jane and Elizabeth.

Jane Lapotaire is wonderful!

Even though this version of Pride and Prejudice is abridged, I was delighted to find it here. I grew up listening to this one and a cassette tape. Jane Lapotaire is a fabulous narrator and tells the story through the characters in a very engaging way. If you want to enjoy a shortened version, for about two hours, this gives you a great idea of the overall story and it’s enjoyable to listen to! Since most of the film adaptions for the most part have edited out much of the book as well, this is a lot like watching a film adaption, except it is listening to a narrated audio book.

Jane Lapotaire Has a Dream Voice

Would you consider the audio edition of Pride and Prejudice to be better than the print version?

The audio version is better than the written version because I can read it while I drive. And in my mind I can never sound as wonderfully English as Jane Lapotaire.

What did you like best about this story?

What can you say about Miss Austen. Classic.

What about Jane Lapotaire’s performance did you like?

Jane Lapotaire has such a delicious voice that I forgot to concentrate on the story and just listened to her speak.

Any additional comments?

My only complaint was that it was abridged. What did I miss? Pay Jane Lapotaire more and have her read the whole thing.
