Publisher's summary

Another exciting adventure from the number one New York Times best-selling series!

The darkest secrets are the hardest to bring to light....

Sylvestri Yarrow is on a streak of bad luck with no end in sight. She's been doing her best to keep the family cargo business going after her mom's death, but between mounting debt and increasing attacks by the Nihil on unsuspecting ships, Syl is in danger of losing all she has left of her mother. She heads to the galactic capital of Coruscant for help but gets sidetracked when she's drawn into a squabble between two of the Republic's most powerful families over a patch of space on the frontier. Tangled up in familial politics is the last place Syl wants to be, but the promise of a big payoff is enough to keep her interested....

Meanwhile, Jedi Knight Vernestra Rwoh has been summoned to Coruscant, but with no idea of why or by whom. She and her Padawan, Imri Cantaros, arrive at the capital along with Jedi Master Cohmac Vitus and his Padawan, Reath Silas - and are asked to assist with the property dispute on the frontier. But why? What is so important about an empty patch of space?

The answer will lead Vernestra to a new understanding of her abilities and take Syl back to the past...and to truths that will finally come out of the shadows.

Don't miss any of the adventure and excitement of Star Wars: The High Republic!

A great effort in this series.

The story itself is excellent, covering the aftermath of The Rising Storm. Narrator is good, though mispronounces words at times. With no sound, and very little music, the audio book version is a bit of a let down. Hope other Star Wars audio titles have sound and music, as do most unabridged versions.

Great story, narration is ok

Narrator can't for the life of her pronounce already established names and in universe words. It's a bit frustrating. Other than that the story is fantastic. The quality of music and sound above par.

Not a performance

The story itself is just as fantastic as all the other high republic books. However, the audio is not like every other star wars book has been got some reason. There's no score, no background noise, no sound effects, and I thought the gal who read it was pretty flat. I really hope this is just a fluke with this book and not the new norm for the rest of the high republic

Incredible story

I loved this book! Keyword Leigh is good, but not great. I definitely prefer Mark Thompson narrating.

Great Story Poorly Narrated

The story was great but I regret not reading this on my own. There was zero production value in this. Completely different than the rest of the audible books in the series. But the story gets a five star.

“Markion and the Nile”

Come on. Several books have been written and audiobooks made before this. Can we at least confirm pronunciation?

ok. story is a good continuation of the storyline.

I regularly found myself lost. I have listened to well over 100 star wars books. But this narrator is too monotone for me. with the exception of the rich kid and the grandma every other character sounded the same and I regularly lost track of which charactor was talking. I Have had this same issue with other books read by Keylor Leigh, but I gave this one a chance since it was a very long time since I listened to a book from her and I really enjoy the high Republic series. Unfortunately I won't be purchasing more books read by her.

Absolutely Great! BUT...

This was an amazing story with a strong plot, Keyport Leigh does a good job, but the transitions from chapter to chapter where nothing short of jarring. I'm unsure why but it seemed like before the last sentence fully ended the title and the next chapter number was being announced... it was so sudden and quick it really took me out of it...besides that one thing it was great

the narrator's voice is very lackluster

the narrator's voice, while strong and good sounding, doesn't do a great job of changing her voice for male/female characters making it very difficult to tell who is talking to who. I found my self having to replay chapters not for the sake of enjoyment but for confusion :/

Only Slightly Disappointed

I don't mind the fact that it was read by a woman but it lacked the feeling and emotional of previous Star Wars novels. it was also missing sound effects and music which is what I've come to love about these Star Wars books.
