Publisher's summary

A dazzling fairy tale about falling in love again by the New York Times best-selling author of The Star-Touched Queen and The Gilded Wolves.

Once upon a time, there was a king and queen in a land called Love's Keep who once loved one another, but alas, no more. Without love, they were doomed to be ousted from their kingdom at the end of a year and a day.

A year and a day passed.

This is where their story starts.

Imelda and Ambrose can't remember why they got married. A year and a day ago, Ambrose consulted a witch, trading their love to save Imelda's life - and they've been stuck with one another ever since. When that same witch pays them a visit on the day they lose their kingdom, she promises to make their deepest wishes come true in exchange for a simple favor and a short journey. With nothing left to lose, Imelda and Ambrose agree. But, over the course of their enchanted road trip peppered with a delirious cloak, cannibals, and at least one honey badger, something magical happens...little by little, step by step, they regain what they had forgotten.

They remember why they fell in love.

When the end of their journey nears and they confront parting ways forever, a new decision faces them. Will Imelda and Ambrose choose their deepest wishes, or will they choose each other - again?

What a great non-fairy fairy tail

Imelda and Ambrose met at her older sister’s wedding and so they were married the next day truly in love so when I’m out the fall sick due to a poison tomato from the princess garden that the Magic Dragon unfortunately must’ve side past, Ambrose said he would do anything to save his bride. So which who happened to be at their wedding said she had a magical spell that would cure her but he must give up their true love in order to save your life and so he is so in love he does it because he thinks nothing could stop him from loving Imelda, but sadly he was wrong for a year and a day they lived in loves keep Imelda was happy as she wasn’t with her sisters and Ambrose was content because he didn’t even remember loving Her. Neither of them want to go back to the lonely castles they want to leave them with the fam 💘Neither of them want to go back to the lonely castles they want to live them with their parents so when the which shows up and says there is a way they can break the spell they both agreed to it. Little does Ambrose or a Melda know this will change everything and true to fairytales it changes for the better. I thought this book was so cute I love fairytales even as an adult especially the new ones and this one is awesome true awesomeness and it’s so funny I just loved it!

Weird performance choices

Why not just have the voice cast play their role instead of every voice in their chapter. It made me constantly get thrown out of the experience questioning why not just do male actor do his character and the woman doing hers.

Can love lost be found again?

Great fairytale with magic, love, and plenty of personality! A prince and princess fall in love and get married, being gifted the small kingdom of Love's Keep that only royal lovers can rule. However, the princess falls ill, and in order to save her, the prince bargains away their love for a cure from a witch. After a year and a day they are forced to leave their kingdom since they are no longer in love, but the witch appears once more to offer them what they most desire if they'll do her a favor. They go on the quest together and get to know each other, but can love lost be found again?

I loved their banter and snark, and the changing points of view with different narrators was enjoyable. The chime between scenes didn't bother me, but I know others were annoyed by it. This was pretty short, but hit everything a fairytale needs to be complete. I'd say it's teen appropriate, but there are some leading comments and a brief steamy scene near the end.
