Publisher's summary

A woman’s life-altering discovery after her mother’s death sheds light on the best and worst of humanity in this haunting short story by New York Times bestselling author Martha Hall Kelly.

After her mother’s passing, Aldona finds a tin filled with old letters from a prisoner at Ravensbrück, a women’s concentration camp in northern Germany. Amid the descriptions of daily deprivations and humiliations at the camp, she uncovers the heart-wrenching story of a small circle of women who risked their lives to hide a baby girl from the guards. Aldona is rocked to the core by this record of courage and sisterhood during one of the grimmest chapters of human history.

Martha Hall Kelly’s Naomi’s Gift is part of A Point in Time, a transporting collection of stories about the pivotal moments, past and present, that change lives. Read or listen to each immersive story in a single sitting.

A somber listen

This is a well written story not for entertainment but for a small look into the lives of women in a concentration camp. As I learn of the horrible things they had to endure my heart goes out to every last one of them. This is history that needs to be told and carried on.

Sadness mixed with hope

A short story told by a woman who was in a concentration camp along with her beloved pregnant sister. The story is epistolary, told in letters to the unborn baby. Lots of sadness, but there is also hope. Narration is great. Beautiful accent.

The Women Endured so Much

The women at Ravensbruck Camp endured so much. The fact any survived is an amazing tale to tell. The heart strings get pulled each time I read or hear the stories. I love that Martha Hall Kelly talks about certain specs of her story in an authors note and gives an update. Books like this cause me to research and look into these stories. See what's the fiction part. Tear my heart just a little more.

I loved that this story was told in letter format.

Always wonderful from Martha Hall Kelly.

Another example of the fine story telling and remarkable character development from Kelly. Despite the horrendous subject the story retains a hopefulness and the indomitable spirit of women in an inhumane and despicable circumstance. Eagerly awaiting the next offering from one of the most talented historical fiction authors of our day.

Birth at Concentration Camp

I really enjoyed the narration of this story. Having a person with a German or Eastern European accent gave the story a much more authentic feel to it. It is always a good reminder to see the goodness that can occur during dark times. WWII had so much death and hatred, but love and friendship also blossomed. It was sad that the protagonist didn't learn her true story until later in life. There is hope she may find more family upon going to Romania.

I would recommend this short story.

I enjoyed the different take on this book about the Holocaust. Hope & determination was how they survived. Thought provoking, excellent story.
