Publisher's summary

The last hope for humanity lies in the hands of a pope and seven strangers.

God has given the Earth one last chance for redemption, with one condition: the best of humanity must carry the word to another world.

Seven total strangers from all walks of life.

  • Jake Young, a Catholic and US Air Force pilot.
  • Dr. Abornazine Jones, a member of the Abenaki tribe.
  • Dr. Hayat Muhammad, a Syrian.
  • Dr. Aiko Yoshioka, a Buddhist from Japan.
  • Dr. Andreia Santos, a descendent of the Amazon Kuikúro tribe.
  • Dr. Mary Harrington, a Buddhist from England.
  • Dr. Joe Washington, an African American Catholic priest.

All of them struggle with their belief in the one true God. Yet, the Pope has chosen them as the crew to launch NUERA1.

The battle for the light has begun with Archangels and demons descending upon the Earth. Can NUERA1 escape the Earth to carry the message of God to another world before the reckoning?

Captivating

A captivating story which keeps you engaged the whole way through. The book is a perfect mix of thriller and science fiction. The narrator does an excellent job drawing you into the story. I cannot wait for the rest of the trilogy on audible!

Hector Johnson really brought this story to life for me.

As A Voracious consumer of audible, I have listened to multiple narrators and Hector is definitely one of the best I’ve heard. The storyline resonates with some of my deepest held beliefs about humanity and religion. When I initially read the hard copy book, I had a PTSD type reaction to the Catholic prayers and unfortunately that hasn’t changed. Outstanding job Henry Sipes and Hector!!

Sci-fi with a little religion and politics

I enjoyed the storyline. The battle between good and evil is interesting. The parts mentioning Kentucky brought a smile to my face. The scientific parts were a little bit much for me, but I do not normally read sci-fi.
Overall, I enjoyed listening to this book. If you like sci-fi, with a tad of politics and some religion thrown in the mix, this is a book for you.
I, personally, did not care for the performance. There were times he made it easier to listen to, but, also, there were times when it sounded like he struggled to read the material. Possibly, that was the way it was meant to be read.

A winner, for sure!

Henry Sipes’ novel NUERA1, captured my attention and piqued my curiosity with it’s real-world tensions entwined in the battle of good vs. evil and light vs. darkness. While this is a work of science fiction, the real-world implications are clear. The central characters are strong, yet feeling, well developed and believable, even within the science fiction blueprint. They evoke emotion and invite the reader to ponder the future of life in our ever-increasingly fragile world. The author takes us into the depths of despair amid political corruption and spiritual intrigue brought on by power brokering, greed and human frailty. Through the darkness, the author offers us the hope of new possibilities, a new order for humanity in a new land far away. However, it’s an uneasy hope, which begs the question: can humankind learn from their sordid past and chart a new course for humanity? A course that is kinder and more compassionate? A course that embraces and grows stronger through diversity and the many expressions of the Almighty? Or is history doomed to repeat itself?  These questions have me eagerly awaiting the next two installments. Sipes has given us a real winner!

I read and enjoyed the print book prior to “listening” to the audio book and, likewise, found it to be very engaging in its audio format. The narrator has a unique vocal quality which brings an interesting interpretation to Sipes written words. There is depth in the narrator’s voice which enhances the urgency of the story line and keeps the reader invested. Overall, a good vehicle for delivery of this book - and I particularly enjoyed the narrator’s delivery of the humor contained within the story.
