In the footsteps of Tony Hillerman

Set in Taos and the Sangre de Christos, we have a new hero in Sheriff Ulysses. Murders near a Zen compound lead our sheriff in all directions with many sub-plots and interesting characters involved in great suspense. I highly recommend.

I'M HOOKED!

Murder at Sleeping Tiger is a great mystery that has a bit everything: a wide range of three dimensional characters, suspense, intrigue, and beautifully written descriptions of the New Mexico landscape. I honestly did not pick the killer until the author was ready for me to know.

The book is very well narrated by Jonathan Beville, who convincingly gives life to a wide range of characters, from the duty-focused sheriff to the elderly jewish woman turned zen master and everyone in between. Overall, I am left with high-hopes for the next book in the Sheriff Ulysses Walker series, and will be keeping my eyes open for the next installment in the series

An engaging mystery

I really liked this book. Koons wove Zen philosophy and rituals with New Mexican culture into an intriguing murder mystery. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

Great story, peaking into mindfulness retreats

I loved this great Hillerman-esque mystery, taking place in Taos, New Mexico at a retreat center. I spent a lot of time in Taos growing up. Cedar beautifully captures the feel of the land, places, and people. I think most readers/listeners will find the peaks into mindfulness retreats, zen, and the players therein very fascinating. I also really enjoyed how well she described the New Mexico culture, which is truly a melting pot of anglos, Spanish, and natives.

I highly recommend.

An involving mystery of New Mexico

You can get to know a little bit about the areas of northern New Mexico while listening to a well read well written mystery. There’s some interesting stuff about the local native American tribes, some stuff about sexual abuse and trauma, fascinating stuff about Zen Buddhism and retreats, and just an all-around involving mystery that takes place in Taos and the Picaris Pueblo as well as northern New Mexico. I enjoyed listening!
