Publisher's summary

Winner of the Man Booker Prize 2018

In this unnamed city, to be interesting is dangerous. Middle sister, our protagonist, is busy attempting to keep her mother from discovering her maybe-boyfriend and to keep everyone in the dark about her encounter with Milkman. But when first brother-in-law sniffs out her struggle, and rumours start to swell, middle sister becomes 'interesting'. The last thing she ever wanted to be. To be interesting is to be noticed and to be noticed is dangerous.

Milkman is a tale of gossip and hearsay, silence and deliberate deafness. It is the story of inaction with enormous consequences.

Critic reviews

"Milkman is extraordinary. I've been reading passages aloud for the pleasure of hearing it. It's frightening, hilarious, wily and joyous all at the same time." (Lisa McInerney, author of The Glorious Heresies)

Absolutely brilliant

A masterpiece of humor and politics. The chatty style was hard for me to read on paper, but luckily I came across the audiobook read by the author and everything started to make brilliant sense.

Narrators voice

The narrator of this book was shocking and I could not listen for more than 30 min and gave up. Her voice has a lilt at the end of each sentence without any expression which makes it very hard to listen to. It was not her accent I have chatted to a few friends who also had this book downloaded and they were unable to listen to it as well What a pity and please can audible assess narrators before releasing the books onto your platform. I love what you have to offer and never had an issue. I must also listen for longer to the sample to ensure the narrator is competent Kind regards Beth
