Resumen del Editor

In this fourth and final installment of the Detective Ace Sloan series, Sloan must solve the murders of multiple members of a prominent Martian family and a distinguished poet all while cultivating a relationship with a new lover and dealing with a sudden serious health issue.

More than ever, he must lean on Detective Kate Hammer to assist him in solving the crimes. Like the other Sloan mysteries (The Red Planet Murders, The Red Planet President, and Mars at Midnight), this book brims with intrigue and suspense set against the Martian landscape in the 22nd century.

William Graham does it again!

First, I have to start off by stating that I got this book free of charge in exchange for a review, but as I always state, this does not in any way impact my review. My reviews are always honest and my own.

I’ve really enjoyed all four books in the series, and this was no different. Yes, I felt like it was missing something, but overall this was good for the short story that it is. Graham knows how to write very tight and precise short stories that are full of detail and actually have a story arc.

Well, that was unexpected

I always say that I love a mystery that is a mystery and this story delivers on that front. As I've come to expect from William Graham this story is beautifully crafted and sucked me in. I've become attached to the characters and love getting another glimpse into their life.

If you liked the other books in this series then you'll like this one too.

Once again the narration is an excellent match for the book, the character voices are consistent from book to book and the delivery enhances an already excellent book.

This book was supplied free by the author/narrator/publisher and I voluntarily wrote this honest review.

Send off.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

This book was alright but short. And there wasn't anything mind blowing. Thus this won't be in my "I recommend" list. I like that the story has a finality to it in this book, conveying that this is the final book in the series. But at the same time, the epilogue seemed rushed and somewhat out of character.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

Among the four books in the series, narration was best in this one. That's not saying much though, because narration in the other three were pretty bad. In this fourth one, each character is distinguishable and their voices had a touch of emotion, which is better than the previous ones. Still, there's room for a lot of improvement there.

Do you think Mars at Twilight needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

No follow-up book needed. The epilogue tied all loose ends and gave the series a proper send off.

Any additional comments?

I received this audiobook for free from the author / narrator / publisher in exchange for an unbiased review.

Hmm...Very Interesting....

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I don't recommend movies or books who use offensive and vulgar language

What does Adam Schulmerich bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Adam's narration is top notch - great job!

Any additional comments?

I haven’t given the thought about establishing colonies and living in Mars before, but this book made it appear as if its already happening! Great imagination! No dull moments - but I cringed here and there because of some vulgar language, which I don’t appreciate.

I received this audio-book free for an honest review by the author, narrator, or publisher. Thank you!!!

Part of a great extensive series

This is the sixth book I’ve read/listened to by this author (all in the same series) and I’m enjoying all the books in this world. Each one has had a story thread, common characters and a conclusion. They can be listened to out of order without many issues.

This is the first book I’ve listened to by this narrator ( Adam Schulmerich ) and I would listen to another. He has good cadence and diction. His female voices are well done.

There are no explicit sex scenes, excessive violence or swearing.

Sloan is sent off with a bittersweet retirement

"Mars at Twilight" serves as a final send-off for Detective Sloan, with the short book focusing on him and his retirement rather than the cases he is undertaking. The story takes place over more than a year and covers a couple of unrelated murder cases that Sloan works on. The murders are not the focus of the story, and are rather inconsequential, but are events that help to drive the main story - Sloan coming to a place of happiness and resolution with his life.

His retirement, and passing of the baton to his protege is not an easy story, but it is a well told and somewhat bittersweet end to the series. The main complaint I really have is that it is too quick.

I look forward to (maybe) there being a Kate Hammer: Detective of Mars series.

Adam Schulmerich is the third narrator to be used on the series (across 4 books), and at least to me he is the best to date. He is clear and well paced. His character differences are subtle, but they are there. There is no difficultly in telling who is speaking or what is going on. He conveys the emotions and the actions of the character off the page well.

left me feeling like I wanted more

Detective Ace Sloan is back at it again in the final installation of the series.

Detective Ace Sloan is a detective on Mars.  He is a Martian detective, and he is darn good at it.  When there are numerous murders starting to grip the Martian colony -- he is on the case again.  He must find out who the killer is, and why they are taking out such a high profile Martian family.

The narration for Mars At Twilight was done by Adam Schulmerich.  This was the first book that I ever listened to by Schulmerich and I really don't think I had enough chance to actually make a decision on whether or not I really enjoyed his narration style or not.  There were a few times that I really felt like there needed to be more emotion, but not all narrators or authors want their books to be done that way.  Overall, his voice was clear and concise. The book was narrated nicely, and I was able to listen to it without any issues.

The final Ace Sloan book left me feeling like I wanted more.  Not necessarily more Sloan, but just more to the story.  There was a lot going on, maybe, even more, going on than any of the other Sloan books.  But, it just felt like something was missing.

I've really enjoyed all four books in the series, and this was no different.  Yes, I felt like it was missing something, but overall this was good for the short story that it is.  Graham knows how to write very tight and precise short stories that are full of detail and actually have a story arc.

Overall, a good story, not great.  But definitely, a good choice for a quick read/listen.  All four Detective Ace Sloan books are.

Another Good Ace Sloan Mystery

Do not let the Mars title and setting dissuade from a good straight forward mystery.
Detective Ace Sloan is taking a well-needed vacation at the Pleasure Dome Resort when he becomes involved in a murder investigation of a prominent Martian family. Sloan and his partner Kate Hammer conclude that the Billings family has been targeted. Join the as the work to unravel the mysteries
I found this to be a enjoyable read/listen. I have found all the Mars short stories to be a worthwhile read/listen

Note: When selecting books to read or listen to for reviews I try and select authors and stories that interest me. Sometimes I am fortunate and other times not so fortunate. Either way, I try to review the books with integrity
