So benennt man Kinder nach literarischen Figuren oder Schriftstellern und spricht Hochitalienisch statt Dialekt. Als Astolfo Malinverno, der Bibliothekar des Ortes, auch noch zum Friedhofswärter berufen wird, gerät sein bisher geruhsames Leben aus den Fugen. Er verliebt sich in das Foto einer wunderschönen Frau auf einem Grabstein, die ihn an Emma Bovary erinnert. Eifersüchtig wacht er über das Grab der schönen Unbekannten, spricht mit ihr, als wäre sie noch am Leben. Doch dann begegnet er im wirklichen Leben Ofelia, dem getreuen Abbild seiner Angebeteten. Gleichzeitig taucht ein Tontechniker auf, der die Stimmen von Verstorbenen aufnimmt, und Malinverno beginnt, den geheimnisvollen Vorgängen auf den Grund zu gehen.
In leichtem, aber sehr intelligentem Plauderton behandelt Dara in seinem neuen Roman grundlegende Fragen von Leben, Liebe und Tod, eingebettet in eine Vielzahl skurriler und origineller Szenen, die das Ganze zu einem großen Hörvergnügen machen.
