Publisher's summary

Danger won't deter this intrepid reporter - even when life and love are on the line.

Sir Gideon Langham wants the best for his flagship newspaper. Hiring daring female reporter Lizzie Drury, aka "Trudy Tildon", seems like a smart decision - until he finds himself falling for her. He knows she'll risk everything to get a story, including one that puts both their lives in danger.

Lizzie longs to write real, in-depth articles. When handsome Sir Gideon offers her a job as more than a stringer, she reluctantly leaves her New York beat for unfamiliar London. But as she pursues a murder investigation, ghosts from her past become all too real.

Digging up dirt attracts the attention of powerful forces who won't hesitate to stop Lizzie dead. Hanging in the balance are Gideon's reputation - and Lizzie's life. In a race to find a killer, Lizzie and Gideon must learn to trust each other...before it's too late.

Wonderful Mystery Romance

In the words of LM Montgomery (Anne of Green Gables) "Too much romance is worse than too little.". This story has just the right amount, and that is to be greatly applauded. I usually have a storyline figured out, but this one kept me misdirected until just before it was revealed. Bravo!!!!

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Narration was really good, she did a lot of voices and accents. The story was really interesting and kept my attention throughout. Downloading her next book, not my first and won’t be my last.

Okay

This book is okay. The author makes the occasional mistake of over explaining things, as though we won’t understand something if she doesn’t explain it to us. Also, some scenes go on too long. Luckily, those are fixed with speeding up the narration and skipping forward. The love scene is awkward, and I would have enjoyed the book much better without it and all the sexual innuendo. It’s not a book I’ll listen to again, but decent enough for a couple of evening’s entertainment. Narration was fine if somewhat confused and inconsistent between British and southern accents.

FLAT.

I listened to this book.because I had enjoyed another of the author’s books and because it was in the plus catalog. It was a mistake. Gideon sounded (literally and figuratively) like a pompous bore and had no real personality. There was no real emotion to explain their attraction. There may have been more to interest me in the brief mentions of her parents’ relationship. As a matter of fact, I was more interested in several of the other characters.

Could not proceed

I just could not finish this book. It was so tedious. I don’t think Kate Rothwell’s writing appeals to me.

I kept waiting for it to get good

I wanted to like it. I like the concept and the characters. The romance fell flat. Not enough romantic scenes for a book of this variety. The one full romance scene was poorly written and not exciting at all. The performance was ok, but no matter how good a narrator is you can’t fix bad writing. Again I really liked the concept but not all the characters had enough development. This reads like a first draft with lots of missing revision. It’s odd to have a poorly written book about a skillful writer. Oh well.

Difficult to get through

This book has a decent plot but the narration was not good. The narrator had a pleasant voice but the inflection, other characters, and extremely awful British accent about killed me. Glad I got it as a freebie.

Ok

I liked the biggening and I did get a few laughs, but I hated that the hero was a social climber. I also hated that he got himself engaged to some woman then minutes later had his tongue down the heroine's throat. Towards the end while still engaged he took the heroine's virginity on his desk. Then when someone set her up, he refused to believe her, fired her and asked her to be his mistress. I did like that when she got kidnapped, she was able to save herself and become her own hero.
