Long before the First Order, before the Empire, before even The Phantom Menace...Jedi lit the way for the galaxy in the High Republic.

It is a golden age. Intrepid hyperspace scouts expand the reach of the Republic to the furthest stars, worlds flourish under the benevolent leadership of the Senate and peace reigns, enforced by the wisdom and strength of the renowned order of Force users known as the Jedi. With the Jedi at the height of their power, the free citizens of the galaxy are confident in their ability to weather any storm. But the even brightest light can cast a shadow, and some storms defy any preparation.

When a shocking catastrophe in hyperspace tears a ship to pieces, the flurry of shrapnel emerging from the disaster threatens an entire system. No sooner does the call for help go out than the Jedi race to the scene. The scope of the emergence, however, is enough to push even Jedi to their limit. As the sky breaks open and destruction rains down upon the peaceful alliance they helped to build, the Jedi must trust in the Force to see them through a day in which a single mistake could cost billions of lives.

Even as the Jedi battle valiantly against calamity, something truly deadly grows beyond the boundary of the Republic. The hyperspace disaster is far more sinister than the Jedi could ever suspect. A threat hides in the darkness, far from the light of the age, and harbours a secret that could strike fear into even a Jedi's heart.

Simply amazing

Amazing in every way. Reminded me of old expanded universe stories about the old republic.

Loved it

This was a great book, a great story. What made it even better was the narration by Marc Thompson.
I have never heard anyone tell a story like Marc, he elevated this book to another level and it was an. absolute pleasure to listen to his narration.

I seriously think Marc is the best narrator I've ever had the pleasure of listening to. Well done to you, sir.

Very enjoyable.

Great narration and some truly fun characters. it kind of blends A New Hope with The Phantom Menace into a Star Wars distater movie. There might be TOO many characters in the end, but I came to enjoy most of them.

Great introduction to the new period.

A great lead in to this new period of the High Republic.
Interesting new characters with a special mention to the villains of this particular story. Looking forward to more as the stories continue.
Marc Thompson’s performance cannot be faulted. Outstanding.

Exciting start to a new era!

This book is excellent. Probably the best description of a galaxy wide disaster in all of star wars. This story has scope and depth and is very character driven. I felt for characters that we only knew for one or two chapters, for example.

Amazing performance, and nice story

Great story. There are a lot of characters to keep track of which can become difficult. The performance was really nice. At the end of every chapter there was music, and most chapters have sound effects. Voices sound realistic when they are wearing helmets

Great Introduction to the Whole New Era

This book is engaging, and I think a wonderful addition to the Star Wars canon. Soule develops the action slowly, choosing to unfold the story rather than deliver it all at once. The end of Part One is particularly moving, and a brilliant moment representing the complexity of the Jedi and the Force. I would say, however, there are some faults. The characters are highly undeveloped, particularly the Jedi. They are pristine and glossy. Their "faults" (if they have any at all) seem superficial at best. The action is far more engaging than the characters, unfortunately.

I have never been a fan of Marc Thompson's narration, and this might be his worst one yet. His accents are forced and his delivery is laboured. I often have to tune out his choices in order to enjoy the story.
