A Warhammer 40,000 Audiobook

Across the warp storms of the Great Rift, a distress beacon calls for aid. The Rock is listening, for the Dark Angels have only their oaths to remind them of who they are.

LISTEN TO IT BECAUSE

See what happens when the Dark Angels encounter a planet that might have even more secrets than they do! Can Master Lazarus cope with discovering what it really means to be defined by your oaths?

THE STORY

Supreme Grand Master Azrael summons Lazarus and his Fifth Company to honour an old debt on the Knight world of Reis – a planet upon which the warp has set its hungry gaze.

But Lazarus is not so sure Reis wants to be saved – its Knights are long lost, its governance is dogged by political strife, and internecine conflict hampers the world’s defence against an ancient evil. An evil which, like Lazarus himself, refuses to die.

The story met standards but the reader has limited range

So the story is decent. The writing didn’t win me over but the broader story was good. A twist followed by a new foe for the series which won’t turn the Black Library on its head but its fresh and I respect that.

John Banks has a limited range and I don’t think he used the full of even his limited set on this book. What he brings is decent it’s worth the three stars but it really could have been better for differentiating characters.

The Yapper saves the day!

I really liked this story, Lazarus genuinely feels fear and is a lot more relatable than most other dark angels. The company command is pretty well written with their own unique quirks. The first chapters of Ork Battle was kinda boring, but it quickly picks up the pace after the meeting with Azrael and the Yapper herself. Performance could use a little bit more range but the story carries this audiobook.

Fantastic

This is an insight into the dark angels that has been missing for a long time. There’s also an insight into the Knights that has never been seen before that made me love them more than I already do. Truly a fantastic story.

Solid freshie

I appreciate the “standing on the shoulders of giants” feel you get with the wyrdbook and her interactions with Dark Angels. The dialogue was delivered in a sort of “fantasy” feel IMHO. Doesn’t effect value of book for me. Maybe others but I can’t speak for them. Lots of engaging and likeable characters, even the Primaris! I love all the new stories in motion. I think this the first for me by the author. Good job. I won’t shy away from any future stuff by you. Be well and keep scribing

The Chaplin’s method

Some of the battles are hard to contextualize. Story was pretty good and it’s nice to see the dark angels displayed this way.

A standout story

I have gone through a lot of 40K books and many stories sort of regress to the mean. This one stands out. The characters seemed to have a little more pop and the story itself was fun and engaging. The Dark Angels are better when they aren’t so inwardly focused. This was a fun story! Worth your credit.

Above average astartes story

Interesting antagonist and a decent set-piece world. Good for those looking for insight on Knights and the Mechanicus as well.

More Master Lazarus please!

Would be nice to see some more internal workings of the Dark Angels post Lion’s return but I’ve grown fond of Lazarus and his dissenting options about the fallen

A stellar first outing for a new author

I’m excited for what Mr Kloster has next, I’d love for him to be the next author to get his own series and original characters to play around with

Fantastic

In nearly all regards. This is a perfect space marine story. Gary Kloster wrote a great narrative with both strong themes and ideas that were carried throughout the story. The descriptions of battle were just as amazing.
