About this listen

Jane Eyre follows the emotions and experiences of eponymous Jane Eyre, her growth to adulthood, and her love for Mr. Rochester, the byronic master of Thornfield Hall. The novel contains elements of social criticism, with a strong sense of morality at its core, but is nonetheless a novel many consider ahead of its time given the individualistic character of Jane and the novel's exploration of sexuality, religion, and proto-feminism.

Loved, Loved, LOVED this book. Beautiful story written in a time in which language was truly a work of art. The audio was done very well with great inflection.

Great Read!

This is by far the best piece or literature I have ever read. I love Jane Eyre and the reader did the book justice. You feel every emotion portrayed and the quality was very good.

Any additional comments?

A classic story. The volume of the narration changes from almost whispering to shouting, making listening somewhat challenging.

I love the journey that Austen takes the reader in this novel. the highs and lows you feel for Jane Eyre are what keep you coming back this book. the start of the book is slow but after a few chapters you find yourself hooked. Messenger does a food job reading this novel. I felt her voice matched that of the narrator perfectly.

Another Austen great?

Would you listen to Jane Eyre again? Why?

Yes, this is a classic which is quite enjoyable. It was really enjoyable and has made me want to re-read later books which were inspired by this.

Any additional comments?

The narrator is really good, but I find her voices for the men to be very similar, which is the only downside. Also her voices for some of the older women is a bit screechy.
Her narration is good, and she manages to bring the character of Jane Eyre to live.

Great story, good narrator

What a beautiful story. The Heartbreaks, the happiness, the sadness, the loneliness, Ohh the emotional rollercoaster was deliciously blissful. Jane Eyre is everything I want to be when I grow up (I'm 35, lol). So smart and courageous, I never have had the strength or gumption that Jane has and I always have wished I did. This story was beautiful and the narrator led me through the life of Jane with perfection. I cried, I laughed, and I smiled till my face hurt.
Such a timeless classic, I daydream thinking about all the little girls who have clinched onto this book so tightly through the century. I was once told every woman should read this book at some point in her lifetime and I'll be honest I was somewhat skeptical. I feel like waiting so long has deprived me of a sense of wonderlust I could have had years and years ago. Don't rob yourself of this magic like I did. Buy it now and listen to is next. You won't regret it!

If I had actually read it, I am embarrassed to say, I likely would have found myself scanning much of it. It is beautifully written and of course was definitely worth my time - but my mind wandered at much of her lengthy prose (and poetry). I would have to go back and re-listen to much of it.

I am also not a 5 star fan of the reader because of the harshness of some of her voices (male). She was an excellent reader but sometimes so dramatic it was off-putting to me.

For me to even dare not give five stars to this is almost sacrilege I know, but unfortunately I am living in such a different time. I loved it - but think it could have been a few less hours long! Gasp! Sorry!

My attempt to hear the classics

Having grown up watching the movie with Orson Welles and watching every remake of the movie since then, I find that the book is so much better then all of those adaptations of the true nove!!l I laughed I cried I'm sad when it ended. but happy for Jane!!

AWESOME!

Truly enjoyed this as an adult rather than when I had to read it in high school!
