Tuttavia i monaci che lo abitano sono spesso vittime delle umane passioni: ambizione, desiderio, vendetta. Durante la sanguinosa guerra tra i regni di Castiglia e di Aragona, il giovane Bizén, assistente del notaio reale, viene incaricato di portare a termine una missione: recuperare i resti dell'infante Alfonso, sepolto in una delle tombe del monastero.
Al suo arrivo, però, scopre che all'interno del monastero si è consumato un orrendo delitto: uno dei monaci è stato brutalmente assassinato in circostanze misteriose, proprio davanti alla sepoltura dell'infante. Bizén viene dunque incaricato dall'abate di individuare il colpevole, ma si ritroverà ben presto coinvolto nelle oscure trame che i monaci tessono l'uno all'insaputa dell'altro. Dovrà risolvere l'indagine al più presto, se vuole aver salva la vita...
