A Stormcast Eternals Novel

Vandus Hammerhand leads the Hammers of Sigmar into the Great Parch of Aqshy to confront an old foe. Together they will all learn whether they can live up to their stellar reputation.

Listen to it because

The Hammers of Sigmar are exemplars of everything it means to be a Stormcast Eternal, and Vandus Hammerhand is a legend in his own right. With such high expectations, can they possibly live up to the stories told about them?

The story

Paragons of the Stormcast Eternals, the Hammers of Sigmar take stern pride in their motto: first to be forged, never to fail. But when rumours reach Hammerhal of an old foe rising in the wastelands of the Great Parch, three of these warriors will be tested to their limits – and grapple with their roles as members of this warrior elite. Ferant Tidebreaker, a recently forged Liberator, struggles with his sense of unworthiness as he is assigned to the Hammerhands. Knight-Relictor Actinus, one of the few survivors of an all but destroyed chamber, searches his faith for a reason to continue. Machaera Dawnstar, a fearless Knight-Judicator, finds her vaulting ambition no match for the desperate rigours of combat.

With Vandus Hammerhand himself at the head of the expedition into the Great Parch, these vaunted Stormcast must learn what it truly means to be First Forged.

Grimdark mythological fantasy

Pretty good story, and well told. Maybe a little edge-y. The primary antagonist's motivations are thin and cliche, but otherwise the characters and setting are given some depth.

A great look into the Stormcast

This story shows the beings behind those implacable masks showing they are not just mindless warriors.

A nice look at stormcast

I loved seeing the stormcast this far into AoS. they are still these wonderful heros, but some have started to become jaded and tired. It's very interesting growth

Lots of opportunity, very little pay off.

The first third or so of the book is great with lots of interesting threads, characters, and places where the store "could" go. There is an air of mystery and intrigue, internal turmoil and foreshadowed character flaws. Then the story does almost nothing with them, and it all just sort of ends in the typical stormcast fight fight fight scenario. It's not terrible if that is what you wanted, it's just that the first third makes it feel like there was so much more the novel could have done.
