Publisher's summary

Thrust into a life full of woeful twists and turns, Jason Marshall has contended with the prehistoric customs and immeasurable power of the Goreans. His struggles on Gor, a planet resembling Earth, included escaping imprisonment, enslavement, and redeeming lost land. Jason has fought to regain control of his life. Having ascended to a position of power in the Gorean army, Jason must prevail in a battle that seems destined to destroy Gor. Jason has a lot riding on his success as a war leader: prestige, wealth, and an Earth girl of goddesslike beauty. Will Jason be able to win the war and avoid a fate worse than death? Will he be able to find the girl who holds his affections? Will he be able to live as a free man on Earth's counterpart and rise to a still higher position of power and respect?

Not much story!

This book appeared to have a story at the beginning, but very quickly descended into an extremely tedious dialog with virtually no discernible story holding it together. A word count of this book would find the words “slave” and “master” very high in the list, and “I am a slave”, or “You are a slave” probably the most common four word phrases!
While this might be quite titillating for a 14 year old boy, it becomes a little tedious by the continual repetition!

Jason the Warrior

Of all the Gor books I have read, this one focused the most on warfare. The ship-to-ship combat is detailed. Bloody rivalry drives the story, just as much as Jason's desire for the girl he loves. This makes a satisfying conclusion for Jason's character arc started in Fighting Slave of Gor and expanded upon in Rogue of Gor. He finally has developed into a lion of a man, and I could feel nothing but pride for him in the end.
