POST-APOCALYPTIC FICTION BY JERRY D. YOUNG The pendulum swings into nuclear war for a family and guests. EXCERPT As soon as she was within range of the low band VHF business band radio, Faith called home. She’d tried the cellular phone, without success. The system had gone down from overload shortly after the announcement of the approaching asteroid. She had barely hung up the microphone when she had to swerve to miss the car in front of her that was suddenly going much slower than before, with no show of brake lights. Then there was another. And a third. Finally, Faith took a second to ...

Story
Set against the backdrop of the isolated forests north of New Hampshire's White Mountains, while camping on family land, Tom and Lori Thornton (and their dog, Buck) find themselves in a sudden SHTF scenario. No cellular service. Dangerous roads. Limited supplies. And far more questions than answers. After the shocking murder of Tom's uncle by a band of looters, the couple's already faltering marriage reaches the breaking point amid the chaos. Trust and loyalties are challenged, old friendships are put to the test, and immediate answers and solutions elude them.

Story
Neal Grant watched silently as the cemetery workers buried his family. It was just him now, alone, something he’d never been before. First, his parents and siblings had passed and then his wife and three wonderful children. All of them were gone forever now - all dead at the same time because of a drunk driver and a foggy road. Little did Neal know that this was only the beginning of things to come. Soon he would realize that he had not only lost his family, but must also deal with a failing economy and a nuclear war.

The computer narration is amazing in that it is able to add intonation in some places.
The computer narration is also amazingly bad in that it puts the wrong intonation in many places. It also was baffled by things that humans would find obvious. Example: 1965 = one thousand nine hundred and sixty five.
Overall, the computer narration is about the equivalent to a totally new narrator who doesn’t really understand the process, it’s not completely unusable, but given the number of folks who are looking to break into the industry, and work for low rates, it is unnecessary.
The stories standard narrative from JDY, not highly polished, but very enjoyable in a folksy down-to-earth kind of way.

Believable scenario
Finally, a prepper story that doesn’t border on or stray fully into the absurd. Nice, well developed scenario.

So happy to get to listen to another Jerry d. Young book on audible
I love all Jerry’s books and I’m so excited to get to listen to more of them on audible even if it’s not one of his regular narrators like Christopher Lane. Please please please keep adding more of your books on audible for your fans like me who have a hard time reading the printed books. I can’t wait to listen to listen to more so I pray more are released to audible soon ! My favorite author and favorite genre!
