Publisher's summary

Four ancient sisters are determined to destroy man unless a blind boy, a mysterious stranger, and a band of teenagers can figure out how to stop them.

Civilization has been scorched to cinders, as a torrent of flames scorched the earth, destroying everything in its path. Much of the world’s inhabitants have been driven to the brink of extinction. The ancient, evil sisters responsible for the destruction are bound and determined to end humanity for good and are eagerly hunting the earth for the last remnants of life to finish the job.

The last hope for mankind lies with a group of teenage survivors living in the vast wasteland of Alaska. Against great powers beyond their understanding, they must learn to trust a blind boy and a mysterious mute stranger to guide them in the final battle that will determine the fate of all humanity.

Please re-record!

This is a great story, but it’s really hard to listen to. The narrator does a good job when reading in the characters’ voices, but reads every sentence in the rest of the story in exactly the same cadence. It’s monotonous and distracts from the story. Some of his previous performances were much better, some were just as bad. This story deserves a narrator as engaging as the characters.

Different take on post apocalyptic genre

Any additional comments?

The story has an interesting premise, more of a horror angle on the post apocalyptic genre from what I've read/heard before. Somewhat predictable in spots, but entertaining enough anyway. Would have liked to have seen the three sisters be a little more mysterious and less chatty than they were. The dialog between them was a bit iffy and contrived sometimes. All in all, not a bad book, and certainly nowhere near the worst I've listened to.

The narration was much the same, nothing particularly bad or fantastic about it. He did do a good job of differentiating character voices, as I hate when a narrator just reads the dialog in the same tone as his own voice. Again, neither the best, nor anywhere near the worst narration I've heard. It didn't outwardly bother me in any way.

If you're interested in the story, it is worth checking out. I'd like to give it 3.5 / 5 stars but I can't, so I'll round up in their favor at least.

Mechanical Narration

Was this book narrated by a person or a computer? I could not tell since there was almost no human qualities in the narration. It was so distracting that I had to replay the first 5 - 10 minutes over and over again and still cannot remember what the story was about.
