Resumen del Editor

9/11. The war on terror. Hurricane Katrina. The 2008 financial crisis. The housing crisis. The opioid epidemic. Mass school shootings. Global warming. The Trump presidency. COVID-19.

Since they were born, Generation Z (also known as "zoomers")—those born from the late 1990s to early 2000s—have been faced with an onslaught of turmoil, destruction, and instability unprecedented in modern history. And it shows: they are more stressed, anxious, and depressed than previous generations, a phenomenon John Della Volpe has documented heavily.

But Gen Z has not buckled under this tremendous weight. On the contrary, they have organized around issues from gun control to racial and environmental justice to economic equity, becoming more politically engaged than their elders, and showing a unique willingness to disrupt the status quo.

In Fight: How Gen Z Is Channeling Their Passion and Fear to Save America, Della Volpe draws on his vast experience to show the largest forces shaping zoomers' lives, the issues they care most about, and how they are—despite older Americans' efforts to label Gen Z as overly sensitive, lazy, and entitled—rising to the unprecedented challenges of their time to take control.

Is there hope for Gen Z?

Great insight and statics regarding Gen Z and the future of America.

It shines a glimmer of hope on a generation who’s experienced nothing but traumatic events in our political and social decay. Although sadly, their innocence has been cut shorter, these times have forced them to pay attention, and hopefully take a more active role in our political system, especially if they want a better tomorrow.

It’s still to early to tell, with a lot of this book being based on 2018 and 2020 statistics. Specifically stats of the 2020 election results, where we had to shelter in place and there was nothing else better to do than to vote. So, 2022 will be the most telling, now that people have gone back to their normal lives. Are Gen Zer’s staying and aware, have the a mid-term elections on their minds?

Hopefully the historical reputation of the youth vote during mid-terms will be flipped on its head. And this will be the sign that Gen Z means business, now, and in the future. And that’s exciting.

This is must read for!

As a mental health professional working with Gen Z and their families, I can't recommend this book enough! I'm so grateful that someone else is discussing the powerful ways these youth show up in the world and the mental health support they need after what they've lived through. The research and the storytelling in this book are incredible! I'll also be buying a hard copy of this book to have as a reference and to quote in my practice. Thank you, John Della Volpe, for creating so much hope. We truly need more books like this.

Critical perspective on immovable social force.

This book changed my perspective on young people in western society. I recommend it to everyone who wonders where we are heading as a society, because Gen Z will be driving change (for better or worse).

Lack of Comprehensive Information and Objectivity

What a stellar disappointment! Conclusions not driven by data. The author takes two irrelevant examples and pounds on them. Yes, George Floyd and the Parkland shooting were horrific and GenZ was a part of those protests. But nothing has come of it, there are so many other avenues to go down. Don’t waste your time with this book.
