Publisher's summary
F ormer marine sergeant Gareth Köhler has a problem; actually, he has several problems, and all of them are lethal. With a blast of radiation from a supernova rapidly approaching, all life on the world will be extinguished if he can’t evacuate a million people from the planet they call Eldenworld. Unfortunately, the prior residents, who created the lie that blowing up the moon would save the planet, ran off with all the starships and shut down the planetary power systems, leaving those less fortunate to a grizzly, inescapable fate. With only the slimmest of chances of saving anyone at all, Gareth struggles to rescue the residents of Eldenworld in any way he can, to any place he can. Then he meets an ancient and immortal assassin named Lothar, who is bent on the destruction of all life in general, and Gareth’s in particular. Failure to stop Lothar, or failure to evacuate Eldenworld will mean the deaths of all those Gareth has come to hold dear. All the problems can be resolved, Gareth realizes, given the time, but time is the one thing he and Eldenworld don’t have.
