Durante la noche de jueves santo en la célebre abadía navarra de Fitero el protagonista de esta leyenda, encuentra dos o tres cuadernos de música con un “miserere”. Dentro del miserere lee unas frases que no entiende muy bien y le pide a un anciano que se las explique.
El anciano le cuenta la leyenda:Hace muchos años, una noche lluviosa y oscura apareció en la puerta del monasterio un hombre que decía ser músico. Lo único que pedía era algo de comer y un techo para poder refugiarse, ya que no tenía a donde ir. El hombre empezó a contar al anciano, que entonces era joven, y a los pastores una historia que según él fue un crimen y que quería plasmar en aquel miserere.Todos pensaron que estaba loco. Poco después cuando oyó a los monjes cantar en las ruïnas de un monasterio viejo cercano el hombre quiso ir a verlos porque decía que la música parecía divina.Al día siguiente volvió a la abadía y pidió al monje que le permitiera vivir allí mientras escribía aquel miserere, pero….
