Für den Nachmittag stehen angeln und die Zubereitung einer schmackhaften Fischsuppe auf dem Programm. Einzig Jerjoma kann die Fahrt anfangs nicht genießen, denn er wird von der Gesellschaft gepiesackt und bekommt nichts zu essen. Der Ausflug hält für ihn dennoch andere begehrenswertere Genüsse als Fischsuppe bereit.
Iwan Alexandrowitsch Gontscharow (1812-1891) war ein russischer Schriftsteller. Das Grundthema in seinen Werken ist die grenzenlose Langeweile, die vor allem in seinem bekanntesten Roman "Oblomow" beschrieben wurde. Die beschriebene Antriebslosigkeit in seinen Geschichten, schaffte es sogar in den russischen Sprachgebrauch. 'Oblomowschtschina' steht noch heute in Russland für das Versinken im Nichtstun bis zum endgültigen Verfall.
