Publisher's summary

Wanted: Volunteers for Project Delta. Will guarantee you a medal. A body bag. Or both.

With this call to arms, Charlie Beckwith revolutionized American armed combat. Beckwith's acclaimed memoir tells the story of Delta Force as only its maverick creator could tell it - from the bloody baptism of Vietnam to the top-secret training grounds of North Carolina to political battles in the upper levels of the Pentagon itself. This is the heart-pounding, first-person insider's view of the missions that made Delta Force legendary.

I KNEW Charlie Beckwith

I met then Major "Chargin'" Charlie Beckwith in the late summer of 1966 during the Third Phase of Ranger. School at Eglin AFB in FL. He safety pinned my RANGER Tab on my shoulder when I graduated from RANGER School. I was a 22 year old 2nd Lt. and would soon be joining the 173rd Airborne Bdg. in Vietnam. He was already a Legend.

Narrators should at LEAST know the vernacular

Air-(MO-Bul) NOT Air-MO-BEEl Other than that small but irritating issue. Great story!!!!! Another example of American Exceptionalism!

Great insight into organizational structure

Charlie Beckwith was as much a corporate executive has he was a seasoned Warrior. I think this is a great read for anyone who is trying to achieve the unachievable in a bureaucracy. The Army is one of the biggest bureaucracies in the world, and Charlie Beckwith was able to create an elite fighting force through his persistence and tenacity. What he did changed the way we fight terrorism to this day, but I think it also showed that our government can overcome red tape to get something important accomplished (when it wants to).

The Inside story of Delta

Beckwith and Knox team up to tell the story of Delta Force in an impressive and authoritative way. From the personal experiences of a young Beckwith to the bureaucratic red tape and internal politics that nearly kept the unit as only a concept; this book captures Delta from every aspect.

The performance is flawless, leaving the reader able to hear the story with out the reader's insertion of dramatic flair.

This is not a "shoot 'em up" collection of covert action, but rather the true story of all that takes place so that Delta can do those things that are best kept in the shadows of a powerful aberration.

Phenomenal Person

This was a very special person, willing to stick his neck out for what he believed in, no matter the consequences. I’m glad he wrote down his experiences to share with us. God bless Chargin’ Charlie.

This book is goooood!

This book is goooood! The narrator was of Delta Force caliber. This book gave a great deal more insight into the creation of delta and I found very interesting in the process to set up a new command in the military.

A man who made his tribe

What made the experience of listening to Delta Force the most enjoyable?

This provides an insight that is often missed when looking at SMU's. Conventional experts solving asymmetrical problem sets with massive amounts of training. It explains the independent Alpha personalities that staff these billets. Also hidden between the lines is a play book on how create and sell an idea.
