Publisher's summary

Fourteen years ago, deep in the steamy backwoods of Georgia in a place called "the snake well" by the locals, a 12-year-old girl is bound and ritually tortured. The details of the crime are bizarre, and the few citizens of Lucerne who know the shocking truth of the crime keep it secret. Now, a young orphan boy arrives in the sleepy town and in the dark woods something inhuman stirs in the "snake well".

An ancient hunger has awakened. Soft voices call out from the dark forest, drifting over the bayou, echoing in the crawl spaces. The townsfolks' darkest nightmares stalk the moonlit streets. And two young boys must face an evil that has been waiting for millennia to bring humanity an everlasting night.

AMAZING and horrifying tale; YOU MUST READ IT NOW!

*This book was given to me by the author at my request, and I provided this voluntary, unbiased review.*

5/5

WOW. This book was an absolute stunner! I couldn't put this thing down. Even though it took a little bit to get going, it definitely got going... and it was SO GOOD! I really loved that the author painted the setting of two different time periods in deep South Georgia so well that not only did I know what it was, I could picture it perfectly in my head. He gave us a window into the real past with a fictional story, and even blended in religious themes seamlessly. There was such deep character development throughout the book, it tied into the suspense of the thrill and horror of the events that transpired; it worked so well. This is A+ quality writing: this book reads just like a Steven King book; without all of the Steven King baggage and silliness.

Excellent Book

If I had read this instead of listened it would have been a page turner.

There was action action action.

I like how the book didn’t end with a definite.

The characters were so well developed I felt I knew them.

Jeffery Hutchins did an amazing job with the narration.

Good book hard to get into at first

This is a very well written book, but it was hard to get into at first. Once I was able to get into it I enjoyed it and couldn’t wait to keep listening!! I recommend this book!

Reminds me of older steven king novels..

I received a free copy of this audiobook in exchange for an unbiased review.

Where to begin? Well, this book reminded me a lot of steven king's older work. The story starts off slow enough and takes it's time introducing the different characters. Events eventually begin to rapidly unfold. I think the part about this book that stuck with me the most was the scene with the sheriff under the house, incredibly creepy atmosphere. What I didn't like so much was the work devoted on some of the characters only to have them take a minor exit. I suppose this I should applaud the author's writing, he really made me feel for several of the characters!

If you're a fan of King's older works, you'll probably enjoy this book as well!

Rural Omen Lite

Story of a mysterious orphan appearing in rural Georgia after a horrible tragedy. Well written, but too many words for too little horror. Easily three times too long, and not enough atmosphere to justify the lack of thrills.
