Publisher's summary

Story
In The Worst of You, just-wed architects Timo and Nia flee a murder scene, setting in motion a chain reaction of lies and betrayals that threaten to unravel everything they have built together. Twisted and propulsive, this thriller is told from the alternating perspectives of the couple and those close to them on Williwaw Island, each with their own motive to use the outcome of the murder case to their advantage. When a huge storm sweeps up the coast, trapping everyone on tiny Williwaw Island, it’s a race against time—and the elements — to stop the murderer from striking again.

Story
It was 1970 in a defeated Rhode Island fishing town. Vietnam and Nixon dominated the national news. Both the near and distant future looked bleak. But they were five inseparable high school friends with something incredible in common: an unwavering resolve to look after each other no matter what hell life threw at them. And they were on a mission. The plan was simple: Go off the grid before they turned 18 to avoid the draft. They’d sell some grass, stack some cash, then head west and start a commune. What could possibly go wrong?

Story
Buckhead isn’t a place you live, it’s a place you survive. And that applies even to the wealthy housewives that have it all. Fancy cars, designer clothes, and daily salon appointments aren’t nearly enough to keep them fulfilled and happy. Because in this town, privilege and opulence go hand in hand with betrayal and revenge. Jenny, the owner of Glow, an exclusive membership-only beauty salon, knows that better than anyone, because she knows everything about these housewives—down to each individual strand of hair.

Great story line.
Contemporary view / interpretation of economic factors that drive military action and it’s underlying / parallel corporate activity. Excellent plot. Should be published in English.

A story with interesting facts
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I think the book is worthwhile listening to. As a novel it is not a great success. The description of the characters is less human than the author tries to realize.
Would you be willing to try another book from Alberto Vázquez Figueroa? Why or why not?
I think am going to read or listen to Tuareg which I expect will give me a better understanding of what is happening nowadays in Mali
Any additional comments?
I think the reading out is OK. At least good for me to practice spanish.

Malo
