It has been a year since the initial outbreak of an infection resulting from a failed terrorist attack. No corner of the globe was spared. Millions simply died during the early days of the outbreak, many more survived with most of those survivors turned into permanently brain-damaged feral creatures. All forms of modern society had collapsed, governments no longer functioned, and electric lights and running water become a thing of the past. A handful of survivors with natural immunity to the virus are alone in a world that now belongs to the infected. Hunter Ashcroft, a wounded vet of the ...

The second half of book 1
The story picks up where the first one left off and to me together it feels more like a complete story. Not to say the story ends because it is clearly left open for the story to continue in book 3. You do get used to the AI voice after a while and because the book is free I will not complain. I would much rather get a book like this for free/with membership then use a credit or pay a few bucks.
With that said the story is okay. The writing is pretty good in my opinion even if slowed by the robot voice at times. My biggest issue is with the direction and the counterdictions or oddities within the story. I am taken back by some of the suicidal decisions by background characters and odd choices main characters have which counter already established behavior. The ending was a bit disappointing which goes towards the odd story direction I was referring to earlier as well. There are worse zombie books out there, and may be worth listening to between credits if you enjoy the genre.
Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.
