Publisher's summary

The best-selling Regency romance series continues as a dashing man of the world hopes to settle down with a lady who'd rather travel.

Marriage has worked out quite nicely for her older sisters, yet Lady Augusta Vivers is certain it would end her studies in languages and geography - and stop her from travelling. But when her mother thwarts her plan to attend the only university in Europe that accepts women - in Italy - she is forced to agree to one London Season. Spending her time at parties proves an empty diversion - until she encounters the well-traveled Lord Phineas Carter-Wood.

Phineas has studied architecture all over the world, yet Augusta is his most intriguing discovery yet. How can he resist a woman who loves maps and far-off lands? But her longing for all things foreign hinders any hope of courtship. When he learns her cousins have offered a trip to Europe, he secretly arranges to join their party. For he is determined to show Augusta that a real union is a thrilling adventure of its own. And when their journey is beset by dangerous obstacles, he gets far more opportunity than he bargained for....

Contains mature themes.

A most excellent story.

As a smart girl with a penchant for languages as well as travel & adventure, I could identify very well with Augusta. I lived & studied languages & law abroad. I was also fortunate enough to have a husband who admired my mind & learning & who was one of my greatest supporters, just like Phineas was of Augusta.

Had potential but fell flat

Meh! The story crawls. At first with the notion of a trip through Europe and the MMC unexpectedly surprising the FMC seemed like it held such exciting possibilities. Unfortunately, nothing, I mean NOTHING, happens. The FMC had the most bland reaction to this man she is missing, popping up in another country just to be with her. Any other character would have swooned. Having read another reviewer say how much she enjoyed the passion between the couple I thought she had read a different book, because there is zero passion in this one. Tjere is barely any emotion on the FMC part. Ugh, instead she goes on and on about how he doesn't love her. Even after he practically stands on his head to make her happy. I was dumbstruck how the author thought we readers would go along or understand this premise. If it werent for the FMC's constant, baseless denial the book would have ended 5 hours sooner. It was annoying and after a shortwhile BORING! ~Yawn~ What exactly was she expecting him to do to prove his love. Who knows 🤷‍♀️, the author never defines what love signs she was expecting. All the whining made Augusta, the FMC, too unlikable. Sadly, Phinn, the MMC, was a doormat. There were a few funny moments but there was no interesting content. I expected travel story appeal, but there was none. No attention getting descriptions of the historic places and monuments in Paris, none in Budapest, or anywhere they traveled. Instead the author spend an enormous amount of time wowing us with the couple's discovery of french fries, and some wacky visit to a cat lady in Budapest. No descriptions of the beauty or splendors that surround them, just complaints of the bad traffic in Vienna, and excruciating details of the well sprung modern carriages. There was no romance. No passion. No hand holding, no kissing and absolutely no sex until the very end. For some strange reason their entire party is intimidated by an oddball character who, apparently, has been stalking the FMC. Somehow everyone ends up at this guys castle and forced to hasten the marriage and proof of the marriage bed. Enter the one and only, extremely rushed sex scene. This part goes off the rails as they feel it necessary to prove to strangers that the FMC was a virgin.... 😳WHAT??? WHY??? Who the heck knows and it is soooo gross and ridiculous incredibly unnecessary for the story that now is REALLY REALLY WEIRD!!
In the last 30 min the story takes a turn into speed storytelling and glosses over all the stuff that had substance and what we waited 9 hours for. Sheesh!
The only redeeming part was the excellent Narration . I cant recommend this book but if you want something playing in the background while you clean the house and you are able to listen for free then go for it. Otherwise... hard pass.
