Publisher's summary
Excerpts:
My name is Billie Barr Baron. I'm the youngest member of the Baron dynasty. I would be considered the black sheep in most families, but ours is so dysfunctional that I'm considered normal.
Great Grandpa Baron made his money running whiskey during Prohibition. His son, Grandpa Baron, quintupled it in New York real estate. Today the Baron family runs a multinational conglomerate run by my mother. We employ 50,000 people spread across the globe, half employed locally. Smart people fear us.
- - -
I'm bi, but have a preference for other girls. Tonight's study group consists of Justin, Brittany, Emma, and me. Justin is a hunk, thank God we have male nurses these days. Emma has an ass to die for. My plan for the evening is a nefarious one.
- - -
My mom is Janine. She is age fifty and married Buck Baron for his money during their college years. They had a kid, my oldest sister, then they separated. He was too entrepreneurial and restless to be a homebody, she too sexual to be alone. They avoided divorce for financial reasons. He remains a silent partner in the family business.
Mom's weakness is wine. One glass makes her giddy and frisky. Her hand ends up in a guy's crotch, any guy. Two glasses of wine and she changes into something more comfortable. Sometime during imbibing in number three she ends up naked.
Mom went through a series of lovers. Each lasting several years and each leaving her with a trophy kid, one not hers, all girls. My oldest sister, Buck's daughter Becky, is the opposite of me. She flaunts her wealth, dresses to the nines, and drives a red Ferrari.
Lover number two was a black man. They named that daughter Ebony.
Lover number three was an albino doctor. They went with the obvious name choice for that sibling, Ivory.
Lover number four was my dad. I don't remember him. He died mysteriously when I was two. That's when Jimmy and daughter Jamie came along. She's my age, a few days older. I'm pretty sure he murdered my dad, but can't prove it. Revenge is a dish best served cold.
Jimmy is a charming, mild-mannered sociopath. He claims he was in black-ops while in the military and knows innumerable ways to kill a person, most undetectable. I'm pretty sure his daughter works as a hit-woman for a nefarious group. I feel an attraction to my step-sister, but it isn't mutual, not yet at least.
All five of us girls work at the company, for my mom. Everyone lives in the family mansion except for me. Why wouldn't they? It's a $100,000,000 house. I do bring my laundry home on weekends. Better one of the housekeepers does it than me.
- - -“I've heard stories about your family. Are any of them true?”
“Most likely. Don't fuck with anybody and you should be fine.”
I could tell Emma felt intimidated as we drove up the mile long driveway. A servant opened our car door, another held open the mansion's front door.”
“Good evening, Miss Baron.” He smiled and gave a nodding acknowledgment to my guest.
“My mom's role model is Leona Helmsley.”
“Oh no. I wanna go home.”
As we walked through the next door, we were immediately immersed in family and guests.
- - -Afraid to decline the gift, Emma soon followed Jamie into the basement of a nearby abandoned building. There she encountered an unusual situation, her nemesis roommate hanging defenseless and vulnerable, her wrists attached to an overhead ceiling beam.
- - -Jamie went over to Rose and ripped open the back of her blouse.
“Whip her! That's an order!”
Emma tentatively lashed the unbroken skin. Then she grew bolder and whipped with eager abandon.
“Enjoying yourself, Ems?”
“Oh yeah! Thanks, best gift ever!

Story
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

At its core is a dead zone, devoid of life, where government agencies crash their obsolete satellites and space stations, confident they won't harm a soul.
