Builds curiosity and suspense, but then falls flat

The story starts out with an interesting premise and draws you into a mystery. There are many unanswered questions and you follow the main character as he searches for answers.

However, it turns out that the writer doesn't really know how to craft a logical story so you're left without any sensible resolution. The beginning of the story raises interesting questions, but the author doesn't actually have the answers - at least not any answers that make any logical sense.

Apparently, the cop keeps getting attacked in hand to hand battles by people for no reason, allowing him to kill or maim them. The first guy was not actually a killer and did not know he was a murder suspect, yet he physically assaulted a police officer and tried to kill him with his bare hands. Then, a serial killer goes into a house to grab a girl, but somehow finds the police officer hiding under the bed and decides he wants to wrestle him to the death instead of escaping or using more lethal means to get rid of him. Oh yeah, and the serial killer happened to forget his trademark knockout chemicals and snakes - but nevertheless they determine he is the right guy?? And the copy cat who happens to be trying to kill the young lawyer and frame some other client of hers, decides to fight the cop outside her door to the death with his bare hands (this keeps happening to this guy - what are the odds?) even though he's not connected at all to the rest of the story. The whole mess makes no sense whatsoever.
