Publisher's summary

The 12th book in the best-selling Chronicles of St Mary's series. If you love Jasper Fforde, Ben Aaronovitch or Doctor Who, you won't be able to resist Jodi Taylor.

'It's time, Max.'

And so, a whole new chapter opens up.

It's long been known that if a thing can go wrong, it will. With knobs on, usually. Disasters start to pile up. A new colleague with no respect for the past and a great deal to prove. Historians lost in time. And - worst of all - Rosie Lee on her very first jump. Then there's the small matter of Max's dishonourable discharge.

From Tudor England to the Tower of Babel - it's all going horribly wrong.

Jobless and homeless, Max receives an offer she can't refuse. Another time, another place. A refuge, perhaps.

She's got that wrong, too.

Rather Disappointing, however…

I love Jodi Taylor, I love the Saint Mary’s series, and I understand it must be almost impossible to keep the stories and dialogue fresh,; nonetheless, I’m actually thinking of returning this one. I almost put it down about halfway through the book, but I found the last half much better. I suppose it is understandable that by book 15 I know what the characters are going to say, The puns, the play on words, and dialogue structure which I so enjoyed through about book 10. :-).
On a slightly separate note, I have no idea how anyone unfamiliar with the Saint Mary’s cast of characters could follow the book, especially the beginning sections.

First one that felt contrived

Might have been the author's way of subtlety relaying that all was not as it should be, but it made the story feel wrong. I hope Ms. Taylor is not getting tired of this series.

Another St. Mary’s, Another Fun Read

I don’t know if I’ve read some of these out of order, but this one helped to fill in some gaps for me. Lots of unexpected twists and turns. Same humor and irreverent temperament. I love this series.

not my favorite

In the beginning, it drug along and it was a if everyone had lost their personalities. The things the characters did in all of the other books was off, in stead of staying with history(which made it interesting), everything went to hell in a hand basket and no body really did or said much about it. It was not in sync. Since when did St Mary's just sit back and let strangers just take over and change everything? especially if they were grieving.
I didn't care for it, it felt as though Jodi let someone else write the first part of the book.
About half way through the book Jodi finally remembered who she was writing about and it became recognizable as a St Mary's story.
