Publisher's summary

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout comes book three in her beloved Flesh and Fire series…

The only thing that can save the realms now is the one thing more powerful than the Fates.

After a startling betrayal ends with both Sera and the dangerously seductive ruler of the Shadowlands she has fallen madly in love with being held captive by the false King of the Gods, there is only one thing that can free Nyktos and prevent the forces of the Shadowlands from invading Dalos and igniting a War of Primals.

Convincing Kolis won’t be easy, though–not even with a lifetime of training. While his most favored Revenant is insistent that she is nothing more than a lie, Kolis’s erratic nature and twisted sense of honor leave her shaken to the core, and nothing could’ve prepared her for the cruelty of his Court or the shocking truths revealed. The revelations not only upend what she has understood about her duty and the very creation of the realms but also draw into question exactly what the true threat is. However, surviving Kolis is only one part of the battle. The Ascension is upon her, and Sera is out of time.

But Nyktos will do anything to keep Sera alive and give her the life she deserves. He’ll even risk the utter destruction of the realms, and that’s exactly what will happen if he doesn’t Ascend as the Primal of Life. Yet despite his desperate determination, their destinies may be out of their hands.

But there is that foreseen unexpected thread—the unpredictable, unknown, and unwritten. The only thing more powerful than the Fates…

So so boring. Took forever to finish

Let me start by saying I love Jennifer Armenteout. I have read every book she has written and I seriously love them all….until this one.

The audio book performance was great. The story however was boring. 75% of the book is just the heroine talking in her head. Going back and forth on what she should do. She was in a cage the majority of the book just thinking to herself. I also think there are just was too many characters, it’s hard to keep straight who is who with all the names. I was just bored. Then when she’s finally back with Ash all they do is argue. The heroine is simply annoying. I really liked this series too, really disappointing

Repetition

We loved this series but this book dragged on and it was so repetitive with the confession of loves and the ether swirling in his eyes. We hope the next installments have more action and less character development.

Still good

While it may not have been as addicting as the previous books I still loved it. Definitely connected more dots and as always has some twists and turns. I don't get why people read so many of her books if they don't love the first ones.. the negative reviews regarding distaste for her books never make sense to me.

Keep going

Longer than it needed to be, somewhat repetitive, but still a good story. Better towards the end.

Loved it!

Great story that doesn’t end in a cliff hanger- yay! Although I don’t typically like when main characters are separated for long periods of time, I do love the way they came back together!

Half Way

I’m halfway through and this is nearly unbearable. I waited so long for this release and so far this is the biggest disappointment. I have literally found myself fast forwarding. Sera and Nyktos are goals but I’d like to get back to them and stop trying to avoid falling asleep with her inner monologue. That’s also one of the reasons I prefer Sera over Poppy. Poppy has FAR too much of that. Sera has a lot, but this book so far is overly done with it.

Narrator was fine

Personally I felt that this book was unnecessary to the story. The author could have written all the necessary plot points in half of the book but instead she dragged it out by repeating the same thing over and over again.

3.5 to 4

Huge fan of the series overall. This book fell a little flat for me. the action was great when it was there, but there was just an awful lot of doing almost nothing with tons of backstory. But the backstory even felt a little long. Some of the character chemistry was missing as well. But I think overall it was worth the read.. or listen. I will definitely be listening to the next book. I hope there to be a little more action and adventure and not as much standing around and talking.

Answers!

I think this was the best one out of the prequels, you get so many connections and answers to blood and ash And how everything came to be. I started thinking of theories can can’t wait to see if there correct! I loved it and I really can’t wait for the next blood and ash book and hope poppy and sera can finally meet!
