Exactly what I was looking for!

Trying to become more of an artist I found my self spending a lot of time online reading on the subject of creativity. Then I stumbled upon this book and went into depth into 10 different traits or things creative people do. First book I've listened to on this subject but I thought it was great. It gives examples of artists such as The Beatles, Steve Jobs, Edgar Alan Poe, Alan Watts, Leonardo Davinci and a whole others.

Seems to lack insightfulness first, but picks up

It's a good, light read for anyone not entrenched in the scientific minutiae of this sort of psychology. References are adequately cited, but not bludgeoned to death.

Some concepts seem to be naively pushed onto the reader at first, only to later get explained away or clarified. It happens a few times throughout. This is a horrible writing style for anything purporting to be scientific, but it doesn't happen frequently enough to cause one to discount the value of the book.

The book is full of useful and non-trivial explanations for why we do what we do. I found it educational, inspiring, and motivating, but not ground breaking or profoundly insightful.

Absolutely phenomenal

This book made me think in all of the best ways and I’ve already recommended it to so many people. The narrator was well spoken and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to him.

Similar to Art of Impossible, but a bit more consumable

Enjoyed both books, but this one really helped carry the message through to full impact

The content is gold

I stopped after the first chapter because I could not bear the narrator’s grating voice and political commentary-type presentation. Then I went back and listened only for the content which is gold. This could help so many people if it were re-recorded by narrator Walter Dixon!

A cornucopia of disciplines mixed together

I liked the content, but it wasn’t anything too world changing or new research. (But then again, I listen/(&read) to a couple hundred books a year, so it might be hard to hear anything new at this point).

However, the narrator was exhausting to listen to. He sounded like an old-timey newscaster and every sentence had that “newsflash” kind of cadence and it was hard to stay focused (which is not usually a problem) at times. Also too fast of a read. After a few hours my head was pounding.

absolutely great book! only 1 dislike

I first read the physical book 4 years ago, and decided to listen to the audio book. it's still an amazing book, diving into human creativity. one of my favorites.

I do have to say, my only major dislike is the high praise of Thomas Edison in the last chapter, claiming him to be the world's best inventor, yet making NO mention of Nikola Tesla?! This part leaves a bit of disgust in my mouth... other than that, this book is tremendously helpful to creatives, in understanding the inner-workings, and to live an even more creative life!
