Resumen del Editor

Somewhere in shadowy post-war Vienna, where everyone has something to sell on the black market, lurks "the third man", who witnessed the murder of Harry Lime. Reseñas editoriales

Voiced with the just right amount of innocence, arrogance and aplomb by the perfectly cast Kelsey Grammer an American writer, Holly Martin, arrives in the 1947 war-ravaged city of Vienna expecting to meet an old friend but ends up being an amateur detective in a murder investigation. What happened to Harry Lime? Was Lime hit by a car or was he pushed, or was it something else altogether? Grammer‚’s old Frasier partner, John Mahoney, does solid work as the voice of the military investigator, Major Callaway and veteran British actress, Rosalind Ayres, shines as the lost and beautifully enigmatic, Anna Schmidt. This taut audio adaptation closely follows the original Graham Greene film script right down to using the classic Anton Karas theme music. Classic noir.

Good Production

Worth hearing for Grammer and Mahoney, as well as the rest of the cast, but definitely see the great movie if you haven't yet.

Greene's tale brought vividly to life

The cast are excellent, bringing this story to life with wit and skill. Greene's story of Vienna's ugly black market trading is carefully recreated by the cast, the soundtrack and the sound effects used, and it works well - it's entertaining and engrossing. Kelsey Grammer gives a particularly praise-worthy performance as Holly Martins.

Great acting and soundscape

Great listen. Superb acting and the wonderful soundscape made it like I was right there among the characters, watching it all take place in my mind more like an immersive experience, thanks so much for all thhe great work Top notch adaptation, captured a lot of the subtleties of the original book.

If I hadn't seen the film and read the novela....

... I might have liked this. However, what we have here is no more than a tight little thriller which passes the time. The cast seems to be hampered by a director who obviously has no sense of irony (which is not the same thing as sarcasm at all.) irony is, however, a quintessential ingredient of any of Graham Greene's work. Another important factor missing is Greene's subtle but bleek sense of humour. (It might surprise many to learn that Greene and Carol Reed regarded the film as a comedy.) What the cast of the film caught so brilliantly is lacking from this production. This is Graham Greene with all the Graham Greene left out.

Wonderful story perfectly captured

Well cast, clear and understandable dialogue. If anyone has seen the movie with Orson Welles, you’ll understand why this is appreciated – OW mumbled through the whole movie. I don’t know German and listening is not the same as reading the book or seeing the movie, however, it was a very enjoyable interpretation and worth listening to even multiple times.

Great Thriller

Excellent production of The Third Man. I also really love hearing Kelsey Grammer and the Late John Mahoney. A really wonder cast. My only regret is that it wasn't longer. Time flew by listening to it.

Disappointing

Overall this recording was flat! I usually depend on LATW to deliver a wonderful interpretation with top notch casts, but this has to be the least likable of the many I've heard. I even had the privilege to be present, with a group of students, when they recorded the beautifully haunting Oedipus Rex, which I use in the classroom!
Even the reliable actors John Mahoney and Kelsey Grammer are humourless and flat. As someone pointed out in a previous review, where's the humor and charm of the classic film? Not a fun listening experience... very disappointing!
