Resumen del Editor

Everything, well, almost everything, you know about American history is wrong because most textbooks and popular history books are written by left-wing academic historians who treat their biases as fact. But fear not; Professor Thomas Woods refutes the popular myths in The Politically Incorrect Guide to American History.

Professor Woods's audiobook reveals facts that you won't be, or never were, taught in school. It tells you about the "Books You're Not Supposed to Read" and takes you on a fast paced, politically incorrect tour of American history that will give you all the information you need to battle and confound left-wing professors, neighbors, and friends.

Quotes Over Conjecture

What did you love best about The Politically Incorrect Guide to American History?

Woods' use of quotes to show the real meanings and reasons behind some of the big moments of American history.

What other book might you compare The Politically Incorrect Guide to American History to and why?

Meltdown by Woods

9 Presidents Who Screwed Up America: And Four Who Tried to Save Her Hardcover
by Brion McClanahan (

What does Barrett Whitener bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

His accents are a little distracting. Not really needed for a non-fiction, history book.

If you could give The Politically Incorrect Guide to American History a new subtitle, what would it be?

What you SHOULD have learned in school.

Any additional comments?

Another enjoyable book by Tom Woods. This really is the "history you SHOULD have learned in school" book. He starts from the beginning of the first European settlers and goes right into the Reagan/Clinton era. Probably the most that I learned was the section on World War I. It is very interesting how war hungry some of the Presidents were and how vocal they were about it. The fact that Woods uses a lot of quotes shows that these aren't just conclusions drawn from connecting dots but letting the actors of history speak for themselves. That's probably the biggest strength of the book throughout. Although there are, at times, conclusions and some assumptions it is balanced with clear moments of history that are there in the open. It's just not clear why you didn't learn about this in school. I also enjoyed the reading suggestions at the end of each chapter. Final Grade - A

Great Book

This book tells it like it is when decisions were made and why. Who knew the rest of the story and what did they have to say about it when it happened. It will open you eyes to the rest of the story.

Great book, poor narration

I really enjoyed the premise of the book, and the facts that Mr. Woods provided, along with quotes. However, the narration left so much to be desired that I had to fast forward through many quotes. This is intended to be a narration of a book not a one-man play. Listening to fake French and German accents completely distracted me from the actual words. I’m planning to go buy a hard copy of this book now so that I can pick up all the parts I missed. Maybe that was their plan all along.

Excellent

Must read for all students of history. Unbiased in its presentation and very honest, update needed!

Great Tom Woods material

Tom Woods is one of my favorite guides to history and thinking like a libertarian. I highly recommend this book.

Interesting Perspective

Definitely worth a listen regardless of political inclinations. Certainly paints a very different narrative of US history and political motives. While the content is interesting, I do find the narration a bit dull...

Must read

If you are interested in learning what you didn't learn, rather than wanting to read something that simply fits with your belief of history, get this book. If you're not willing to learn where your history textbooks didn't tell the whole story (or any part of the story at all), then don't listen to this book because as you can see it is very bothersome to some that don't want to have their views questioned.

Tough to get past the open bias...

interesting material and perspectives. Some armchair paychology in the book, giant leaps to conclusions and taking some valid points and boiling down highly nuanced problems to simple answers backed by some solid counterpoints, but would've appreciated setting that treated things more even handedly to lend some credibility to the cases being built.

Contrarian view

Very interesting book. Come with an open mind. You may not agree with every assumption he makes, but it’s definitely very eye opening.

Tom Woods Doesn’t Miss

This book is a great introduction to American history, and it shows the incrementalism and erosion of the constitution that libertarians, such as Woods, preach about. Great read.
