Profound Reflections

One of the most profound spiritual reads in recent memory. At several points, I had to rewind and replay—not because I didn’t understand, but because I was blown away by the insight. Incredible metaphors and explanations.

Passion and the Cross a good Lenten read

Like most of Rolheiser's work, The Passion and the Cross was exceptional. It's a wonderful work to use as the basis for meditation. Rolheiser's theology is accessible and down to earth. Much of what he says resonates with me as a person of faith.

Intersections of Cross

This book was incredibly insightful on the work, theological implications, practical application and power of Christ's work on the cross. Though written strictly from catholic perspective, as a Protestant I gained much personal connection with Jesus through this book and enjoyed a new perspective of how the Cross and Jesus' resurrection intersect in my life daily. There is much to ponder...I plan to listen again.

Really beautiful

I learned so much from this book . There is a depth that Rolheiser has that are lessons for life. The narrator was excellent.

underwhelming

Some good insightful parts, but most of the book seemed to me that the author was trying too hard to sound novel and even shocking, flirting with a new theology. He didn't come across as a Catholic writer. Also, some thoughts were not well explained and were left hanging, and a few parts didn't seem to connect well. The narration was good, however towards the end it sounded rushed.

Not as inspiring as hoped for

I know the Passion represented a lot of things all of which are explained in the book. However there was a sense that we all have crosses to bear and that we should learn to deal with it.

Not in agreement with Catholic teachings!

This book has an excellent start. It's interestingly written and easy to read. I gave it only one star because it is in opposition to Catholic faith in quite a few places. Example: the author is saying that Jeaus felt betrayed on the cross when he uttered the words: "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" The above sentence is the first line of Psalm 22 which prophesied Jesus' death and resurrection. Like all rabies, Jesus starts the first line of a prayer and the crowd is supposed to follow and finish it. Saying that Jesus felt betrayed on the cross is also in a direct opposition of what the author is saying in the first chapter. Another example: the author is asserting a reader that st. John of the Cross is saying that we all loose faith during the dark night of the soul. St. John of the Cross is saying exactly the opposite. In his masterpiece 'Ascension to Mount Carmel ' ,he is saying that faith, hope and love are the virtues that help us assent. You never loose faith during the dark night of the soul. There are some other examples that I won't even mention. This is a New Age book and if it were advertised as such, I would have given it a better rating. I am somewhat disturbed by the fact that a Catholic priest writes an interesting book that is NOT in agreement what his faith teaches. There are many Catholics who without proper preparation will not recognize it. It's erroneous to do so.
