From social disruptions like economic recessions, pandemics, and new technologies to individual disruptions like getting married, career transitions, and becoming a parent, we undergo change and transformation—both good and bad—regularly. Change is not the exception, it’s the rule. Yet we endlessly fight it, often viewing it as a threat to our stability and sense of self. Master of Change flips this script on its head and offers a path for embracing and even growing from life’s constant instability.

His influence has spanned decades, but that influence has become so much a part of mainstream psychology that the ingenious nature of his work has almost been forgotten. With a new introduction by Peter Kramer, this landmark book is a classic in its field and a must-listen for anyone interested in clinical psychology or personal growth.

Women get mixed messages about how to succeed at work, and research shows that much of the career advice aimed at men doesn't even work for women. We’re left wondering: How do you say no without being labeled difficult? How do you get paid what you’re worth? Should you go for that next big promotion, even though it’ll impact your family? Known for being 2018’s most-booked female speaker in the world and now a nationally-syndicated talk show host, Mel Robbins answers these questions and more with research-based strategies that you can put into action immediately.

In a rarified world of scientific research, a revolution has been brewing. Its activists are not anarchists, but rather Nobel Laureates in physics and economics and pony-tailed graduates, mathematicians, and computer scientists from all over the world. They have formed an iconoclastic think-tank and their radical idea is to create a new science: complexity. They want to know how a primordial soup of simple molecules managed to turn itself into the first living cell--and what the origin of life some four billion years ago can tell us about the process of technological innovation today.

This understanding is of fundamental importance, both in understanding how we and all other complex life came to be, but also in order to be able to control our own illnesses, and delay our degeneration and death.

Resumen del Editor
"Should we throw everything to the wind and follow our passions? Or should we strive for balance and let our passions cool? This book offers the surprising, nuanced, and research-backed answer." (Daniel H. Pink, Bestselling author of When and Drive)
"I feel like this book was written for me. I had to resist underlining every sentence." (Shalane Flanagan. New York City Marathon Champion, Four-Time Olympian, and New York Times bestselling author)
The coauthors of the bestselling Peak Performance dive into the science behind passion, revealing the ways in which passion is a double-edged sword and offering a plan for following your passion without ruining your life.
Common advice is to find and follow your passion. A life of passion is a good life, or so we are told. But it's not that simple. The same drive that fuels breakthroughs - whether they're athletic, scientific, entrepreneurial, or artistic - can be every bit as destructive as they are productive. Yes, passion can be a wonderful gift, but only if you know how to use it. If you're not careful, passion can become an awful curse, leading to suffering and burnout.
Brad Stulberg and Steve Magness once again team up, this time to demystify passion, showing readers how they can find their passion, sustainably harness its power, and avoid its dangers. They ultimately argue that passion and balance - that other virtue touted by our culture - are incompatible, and that to find your passion, you must lose balance. And they show how to develop the right kind of passion, the kind that lets you achieve great things without ruining your life. Swift, compact, and powerful, this thought-provoking book combines captivating stories of extraordinarily passionate individuals with the latest science on the biological and psychological factors that give rise to passion.

Michael Easter, author of The Comfort Crisis and one of the world’s leading experts on behavior change, shows that the problem isn’t you. The problem is your scarcity mindset, left over from our ancient ancestors. They had to constantly seek and consume to survive because vital survival tools like food, material goods, information, and power were scarce and hard to find. But with our modern ability to easily fulfill our ancient desire for more, our hardwired “scarcity brain” is now backfiring.

Years ago, after suffering a humiliatingly large dumb tax, it dawned on me that I have a seemingly unlimited ability to hit unforced errors and sabotage my business and financial success. I suspect you do, too. It turns out that the key to getting rich (and staying that way) is to avoid doing stupid things. I don't need to do more smart things. I just need to make fewer dumb mistakes. The vast majority of our dumb tax is a direct result of emotional, overly optimistic, and poorly thought out decisions.

In this eye-opening account, Cal Newport debunks the long-held belief that "follow your passion" is good advice. Not only is the cliché flawed - preexisting passions are rare and have little to do with how most people end up loving their work - but it can also be dangerous, leading to anxiety and chronic job hopping. After making his case against passion, Newport sets out on a quest to discover the reality of how people end up loving what they do.

Exactly as the Cover States
The main points:
1. Stop believing that your passion should be marriage at first sight. That means instead of believing an activity should be immersive from the get go, seek activities that are interesting at first. Like for me when doing Python, I was not ecstatic but after a few weeks of learning now I’m obsessed.
2. Make sure your passion is for intrinsic rather than extrinsic reasons. Take being an NFL quarterback like Tom Brady. Instead of the $25 million contract, mansion, beautiful wife and Super Bowl Rings. It has to be for a love of the game, you have to be immersed to lifting weights, practicing on the field every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday and so on. Icing yourself, eating fruits, vegetables, clean protein, meditation/visualization. Intrinsically motivated means you do all of that and you are able to have fun along the way.
A preview of what this book has to offer, and answers all your questions about how to get real, long lasting passion.
