Resumen del Editor

A Spartan army, a portal to a fantasy world, and an impossible mission.

Aros trained his whole life to become a leader of Sparta, destined to lead the finest. During a brief peace with Athens, the two sides engage in a joint training at sea. Aros finds himself thrust into command when his superior leaves to avoid a coming storm.

Except the brewing squall is supernatural, brought on the by the Gods. Poseidon tests the warriors’ mettle, and after a fierce battle, broaches an offer: be forgotten to history, or travel to Drakor where only one species out of ten practices Hellenism—humans.

On Drakor, a place of magic and mythical creatures, humans are slaves to the nine species. The Greek Gods hate this, but the nine species worship a different Pantheon, thus limiting their power and sway. Determined to show the true might of humanity, Zeus and Ares send Poseidon to portal the small fleet from Earth to Drakor. Once there, Aros and the Spartans will crush the nine to free their kind or die glorious deaths on the field of battle.

Will their battles, triumphs, and deeds ring through history, or will the insane odds prove too much?

Han Yang is back with a new interesting story

The story reminds me a bit of the series Destroyermen where two World War 2 ships get sent into another world during a weird storm. In this new world they need to fight for their survival against beasts and humanoid monsters.

In this story we have a fleet of Spartans and some of their allies abducted and sent to another realm by the Greek pantheon to fight another pantheon's influence in that realm and try and save humanity. Oh, and magic and mythical beasts exist in this world.

Won't go into spoilers but there is a lot of fighting and some slavery elements in the story.

Good narration by Matt and Melissa.
Looking forward to the next installment.

This is a good one

I'm already a fan of the time period having grown ou with Hercules, Jason and the Argonauts, Troy, The 300, Ben Hur and many others. This is what would happen if they went to a magical fantasy world instead of the tales of magic on our world. I would make a guild like this if this was an RPG. The world building is great and its detail puts me in mind of the Isekai Magus series, which I consider to be a very vividly constructed world. Luckily for me I was prepared for a slower start as this is a book one. In my experience all book one's drag a bit as the world, its magic system, the MC's background and general storyline setup in general, and other worldbuilding aspects are explained. I really enjoyed this listen and of course I'm looking forward to book 2.

Check This One Out

A little context for my review. I tend to take it easy on the first and last book of any series as not every series makes it to “The End” and the first of anything can be a shaky endeavor. With that in mind the most important question is whether or not I was entertained and here the answer was yes. It's definitely something that I don't recall coming across before as in something substantially similar. I would argue that we've got two heroes here. The setup to the story is akin to a portal adventure. The differences that it is Poseidon who has approached a Spartan army on board an Athenian fleet with the request that's not a request. There are other pantheons in the universe that control other worlds. Poseidon and his fellow gods are in conflict with one of those and the world that those gods control have enslaved humanity. On that world humanity is one of 10 races and they could use some help. The Spartans and their allies will receive some upgrades but are expected to go to that world and free humanity. At least 90% of them. Of course, there's magic and monsters or perhaps some of those other races are monstrous races on that planet, but the choice of refusing leads the gods of our world to destroying the entire fleet. Of course, should they be successful and return their memories will be wiped and they'll simply be returning home with a lot of Persian ships full of iron. On this distant planet we're introduced to a 17-year-old priestess of Poseidon for lack of a better description. She has more or less grown up and a community where at least she has never known slavery. She's unkempt and unruly while being partly ostracized. When the slavers attack the village, she fights back. Her brother who had been captured while trying to get food from a nearby island is the one who led the slavers to her people and ultimately betrays his sister. All of the aforementioned take’s place within the first half of the book pretty early on. I don't want to risk spoiling anything. The writing is good, and the narration team has done a fantastic job. I have enjoyed the prior work of all three individuals in the past and do look forward to more from them in the future. If I had one critique for this story it would be the oddity of having Spartans who are known as great warriors first, but then also known as slavers themselves traveling to a distant planet to rescue human beings from slavery. I suppose you could also argue that it's weird to have them attempt that with their mortal enemy the Athenians though to be fair they did ally with them in the face of Persian aggression. It's more the first part of having slavers rescue people from slavery that doesn't really make sense. That said it is fiction and we're being asked to suspend our disbelief in regard to Spartans. If I had to take a guess, I suspect that this is slated for a trilogy. Lastly, I'll just say well done to everybody who had a hand in bringing this story to us, the Audible listeners.

What is your profession!?

I received a free copy to give my honest opinion, I will try to avoid spoilers. An army of Spartans and Athenians are transported to a world where humans are seen as a weak and meek slave race, so you can imagine the kind of unexpected horrors they could unleash.

My only gripe would be the use of a few modern terms in a fantasy story based on classical Greek mythology.

Overall a fun story to enjoy.

Han can really pump out the books

This is an awesome start to a really interesting series. An entire army of ancient Grecian warriors transported by the Illinoian gods to another world to spread thier pantheons influence since thier power on earth is disappearing. Awesome fight scenes and I can see another 5 books in the series. A lot of potential. This is a great start to the series.

Once again Han Yang delivers!

This has been an awesome story staring some of the greatest warriors in human history. Reminiscent of David Drake's Ranks of Bronze Trilogy, only with the Greek gods instead of space aliens.
If we don't see book 2 real soon we're going to have to break out the desk chains again... ;)

A great Spartan novel!

Love me a great Spartan story that really brings home just hope strong willed, honorable, well trained, but above all loyal and unbending on their beliefs even if it went against those above them. Loved this one!

Greatest Army and Navy of History Meet Fantasy

A truly unique Iseaki where instead of one person with the "goal" to save the the human race we bring the greatest army and navy of human history to partake in a holy war the save humans from slavery in a fantasy world. Han Yang has truly shown his skill in building a world and story unlike anything else. Matt Hicks is favored by the Gods of this book with his performance in bringing each of the races uniqueness together with his voice. If you are a fan of Spartans, Fantasy or battles this is a must for your audio collection!

slow starter but good

if you are into historic fantasy reimagining or some of the older style series where armies get transported to another world this one's for you. bit of a slow starter and took a bit to get used to the female narrator's part but otherwise a good listen

SPARTA!!!

Spartans and Athenians and their ships get sent to another world by the god Posiden.
They are to convert everyone to the gods of Olympus or kill them because the different races have inslaved the humans.
Great story.
I'm hoping there is going to be a book 2.
I give this book 7 out of 5 stars.
